Just curious, if your RTT rack was built at the full height, what do you think would be the disadvantage(s)?

2x4s tough to beat. Easy to replace.

I find my spare gas gets used by others more than me. So having it portable helps. But I do like my 18 gal of water w/pump underneath.

While I never enjoy the stigma, our minivan is really tough to beat. Ours has no center row seats. Having sliding doors on both sides allows great access in tight parking. It gets used to haul props, as a remote changing room for models, and an office for laptop use, an camera maintenance...

Almost need some pics of the underside to get an idea for frame/axle. My hunch is a traditional box frame with some Additional frame to accept the boxes.

Nice. Once raised, I get you find some clever attachments to mount for and aft the tires to fill in nicely. Id mount tent on a set of rails 4-5" above boxes. They'll become tie down for many other goodies. Good luck

Pax, note a full bed mounted to a truck as you trek about these days. They're often wider than the truck itself. Too wide isn't a great feature back in the sticks. Sent from my iToaster

Starting from scratch is great. After a few runs, your needs will start dictating what if any enhancements are needed. Enjoy!
