I didn't have cracked exhaust manifolds (no ticking) however I did notice some blow by on one of the (front or rear I forget) cylinders at the exhaust gasket. I hadn't realized the associated noise until the first fire up with the headers: As you stated they are very quiet!

I don't know there is more than one BFG factory producing tires for North America. I was just trying to figure out why the big spread in real world experiences amongst users of the same type of tire.

I have two buddys that have had sidewall blow-outs with BFG AT's. I was with both of them when they went. Others seem to be able to beat them with no issue. I wonder if its due to different factories and possibly their inconsistent QC? Or poor QC in general?

Well it depends on what you mean by "higher altitudes". At say 12,000' I'd prefer a white gas burner with a pre-heat loop for the fuel. MSR among others make some great stoves designed to function very well at higher elevations. White gas offers the most bang for the buck IMO. Having said...

Propane has about 90,000 BTUs per gallon. Gasoline has about 115,000 BTUs per gallon. And white gas (naphtha) has about 125,000 BTUs per gallon. At altitude an/or cold temps the differential grows.

FWIW the watertight translucent containers have held up perfectly for me. I use three of them inside my LC strapped down with a ratchet strap. For my application they work perfectly. They keep all the contents...no small feat on our Nevada and Utah explores(!!!)...dust free. Having said that...
