Small update, got the 4 corner pieces welded on. Still need to do some finish grinding and clean up. Overall fit well, not perfect but should do fine. Next up is skinning the outside. Need to get the side done with a step flange so I will have to farm that work out, since I don't have a bead...
I agree, keep it as low on the roof as you can. Here is the Baja Rack I put on my Cherokee, which is about as low as I can get. I did have to make a front air dam (no pics) as it would make "hum" above 40mph. Air dam solved the problem.
Thanks! Yeah, I bumped it another 1" for the floor thickness. Trying to keep a low as possible but not have our heads bounce off the ceiling when inside. ;)
As for the welder, yes it does both. I am using 240v as it allows a higher duty cycle at the given amps I am using. Plus I have a very...
Had a very busy, tiring but productive weekend. Lots of cutting, fitting and welding done on the roof raise project. I have the two side walls and rear wall framework completed. Need to do the front wall and then skin everything. So far happy how things are turning out. Some progress pics...
Yeah, might see if there are. The VW ones I have seen for sale (which I can get new) are mainly 8" diameter and no more capacity than a standard 20 lbs. BBQ type tank.
Well that sucks!
Not really any great propane shops in San Diego. Most are refiller places or do home sized tanks. What worries me is Manchester doesn't even list that model (or diameter 10") on their site. Had one on order from Amazon for almost 4 months and then Amazon cancelled the order as unavailable...
Thanks but nope, talked to them and they do not have in stock. They were also the most expensive places that listed them. Most places were in the $550-$600 range but again, nothing in stock. Hoping someone on ExPo might have a connection somewhere.
Hi all,
I am trying to source a Manchester propane tank model 6815. Google searches has not found anyone with them in stock and was just putting out if anyone has a source for this specific model. This fits the space I need exactly, with the most capacity I can get.
Any help would be...
Another option, similar to the trailer idea is to put a slide in camper on a trailer. This way you can also move up to the appropriate sized truck when the time is right.
Older campers are going to be even heavier than newer ones, as they are almost all wood. Many companies have switched to aluminum or composite for newer builds. Personally, I think you will be shooting yourself in the foot if you get any 1/2 ton rated truck and doing a slide in of any type...
Really going to depend on what camper you are planning to haul. If something lightweight like A/T Habit or a GFC or the sorts, most of those choices would work. If you are looking at an actual slide in camper, go with a 3/4 or ton truck. Numbers on paper might suggest a 1/2 ton would be fine...
Thanks. Yeah, I really wouldn't mind it being a popup but yeah, it really complicates a lot of things. I had been researching hard panel popup builds versus soft sides but either type would be a pain.
Now I need to sort out my material list and get that ordered.
Well I finally got time and committed to my direction. The roof raise has begun. Used an air chisel and cut the rivets (technically Huckbolts) off from the backside and they popped off like butter. Then used my floor jack and a piece of tubing to start lifting the roof off the side and the...
Make sure if you are going to use a key fob, it is not one that is tied into your security of the vehicle, i.e. once in the truck, they can start it (if you have push button start).
