Our Dodge Ram 2500 and FWC Grandby, loaded and ready to go, comes in at 8560 lbs. on an 8800 lbs. GVRW. I do try to watch what is added to the truck, to help keep the weight down. Just changed over portable solar panels as they went from 20 lbs. to 3 lbs. It's a lot of the little things that...
Here was the post about a wheel failure - http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/84721-GOVE-Global-Overland-Vehicle-Economical-build?p=1435284#post1435284
Cool build idea. Looks like it could end up being a really nice build.
I hope you have better luck than some of the forum members have had with Rickson wheels. IIRC, long delays and wheel failures have occured.
Hi all, I am clearing out my magazine collection and am putting up my collection of Overland Journal magazines. These are in very good to like new condition. Most only read through one time. This collection is from the very beginning edition up to when I let my subscription lapse in late...
Man, really sorry to hear what happened. Words can't even describe my feelings about individuals who do this type of crap to people. As for your question about the front mounts, if this is tubing that is bolted to a fixed mount, you will want some sort of bushing to prevent the tube from...
Nice modification of the Swagman rack. I have this rack for our daily driver and it works well for street driving. I love how easy and simple this rack is and it secures the bikes well. Nice mods for making it offroad worthy.
'97 Dodge Ram, 4wd, club cab, Cummins. Loaded up, ready to go, full tank and me (250 lbs.) I was at 8640 lbs. with an almost exact 50/50 split between front and rear. GVW is 8800 lbs. so close but not over.
Definitely not a FWC. They never used that style of lifting system. Sorry can't help identifying but it's seems to be an early built camper (80's maybe).
Not recommending any specific truck but given what you want to do, I HIGHLY recommend a 1 ton truck. My 3/4 ton Ram, with our FWC, ready to roll is sitting at just shy of 8600 lbs. on an 8800 GVW weight limit. Looking back, a 1 ton might have been a better option for the extra legal capacity...
One could answer like I hear Harley riders do, "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".
That said, though this is not King of the Hammers, it is definitely not your fire road to the local camp ground. This is our rig going up Mengal Pass in Death Valley.
I did it all at AAA and it was easy. Go in with your camper and say you are looking to register as an RV. They will have you fill out a statement of facts, go out and do a quick inspection, to make sure it quailifies with the required equipment and bam, done. I did mine when I was up for...
CA all trucks are registered as commerical vehicles. What they do is give you a weight fee based on rated GVWR. My registration was over $400 per year and more than half of that was the weight fee. Since I have the camper on 100% of the time, I re-regestered it as an RV which removed the...
I haven't looked at one of the new ones in person but I agree with the lack of the little details with the first gen Colorado. I test drove an '06 or '07 and felt really cheap compared to my '97 S10, which just felt more quality in feel. Textures and materials just felt better. Guess we'll...
