I would put my $$ on mountain hardware any day of a cold winter..... Their equiptment has proven itself out there ........ Bauer on the other hand is a name brand.. and you are just paying for the name.... Other good options are marmot, western mountaineering, TNF, feather friends.....

RE:struts damaging the fabric.. im thinking of putting some sort of sleeve to protect the fabric from getting pinched....

If I had a troopy I would get a propex heater.. Expensive....yes, but safe. i would be warry of a heater like one posted on the link above...
