To the OP. I too had the same problems.. I went with a lighter smaller and much much easier set up to adress this issues... The trade off was less space...

I toss the -20 sleeping bags in the RTT and the snow chains in the front ARB bumper... out of sight, out of mind until needed The sierras and local mountains already got some snow.. that's a great sign

what size tire do these chains fit ?

I use accuride locking slides 40" long. They have been great in the past year but all they seen is a bit of dust and sand without any issues.... Your best bet is to go with ball bearings (skateboard bearings). These would do the job and last a heck of alot longer than any slides..... Or try to...
