Downside is, if you break a driveshaft, you're kind of SOL at that point and many times when you break a driveshaft (or u-joints), that is when you need your e-brake the most (to get out and check the damage).

To add a comment about shocks, not sure what you are looking to go with but I would highly recommend Bilstein 5160 series. Biggest problem with shocks is heat and with you being on the heavy to very heavy side of things, you will be working the shocks hard. The 5160's have remote reservors and...
