The 3.0 mitsu engine that crysler used in the Minivans (6G72) is the same block and heads used in the 3.0 Montero's. So If going that route would be best to start with one that already has that engine in it (89-93).

They are not the same case. The gen 1 transfer case does not have a differential, so thus no full time 4wd option. Torque is split 50/50 in both 4 hi and 4 low. So you cant really say it has a center diff lock since there is no center diff.

A The gen 2 T-case will not fit without drive shaft mods and figuring out how to bolt it to the trans. There is no diff in the gen 1 t-case. So you could say that it is "locked" in both 4hi and 4lo.
