LWB vs SWB, Which Is Better?

Seems like you got it covered. SWB is more fun IMO it just feels sportier. LWB is more practical and you can fit more passengers and gear into it. It all depends on what you are going to use it for. The LWB is a lot more stable on steep climbs and is less likely to lift up the front end...

My 91 LWB Montero Build (El Gato)

For the last couple months my 89 SWB has been on the back burner and I've been working on this 91 Long wheel base model that I bought from another member of this forum (grasscat). Anyways here's the Specs. 91 gen I Mitsubishi Montero LWB Auto with 195K miles Mods: 96 Mitsu Montero rear end...

    New Gen. I Montero

You should have P,N,D,2, and 1. Put the trans in 1 and it will hold 1st gear. If you dont have this option then someone must have swapped something around. Your rig looks to have a body lift...Maybe the linkage was not adjusted after the body lift was done. Theres an adjustment nut on the...

    Non-Mitsubishi Montero?

The 3.0 mitsu engine that crysler used in the Minivans (6G72) is the same block and heads used in the 3.0 Montero's. So If going that route would be best to start with one that already has that engine in it (89-93).

    Non-Mitsubishi Montero?

Yes There are 3 or more guys over on 4x4 wire that run the 4.3 Chevy Vortec V6. They are running the Eng./trans/t-case out of a parted blazer. There's not much need to swap out the diffs unless you decide to go SAS and then you can leave the rear end if you can find a front with a close...

The sliding rear windows wont fit in the LWB, but you can try sourcing them form overseas. Sometimes you can work out a trade....The UK got them and so did the Asian countries like Thailand.

    Two-Tone Paint Job???

2tone A few of the Japanese style 2 tone paint jobs made it over on the early gen 2 models of 92 and 93..they are pretty rare but I've seen a few of them around, they are the premium trim level and come with the rear locker. search around the net for photos.

    New Gen. I Montero

Diffs Generally speaking...putting differentials in the t-case is something you'll see in later model 4x4's to allow use of 4x4 on pavement. Most earlier models with this were full time 4x4's. with no 2wd option. Mitsu was one of the first to offer all options in one transfer case with the...

    New Gen. I Montero

They are not the same case. The gen 1 transfer case does not have a differential, so thus no full time 4wd option. Torque is split 50/50 in both 4 hi and 4 low. So you cant really say it has a center diff lock since there is no center diff.

    New Gen. I Montero

A The gen 2 T-case will not fit without drive shaft mods and figuring out how to bolt it to the trans. There is no diff in the gen 1 t-case. So you could say that it is "locked" in both 4hi and 4lo.

89 Montero Build: "From Compton to the Con"

89 Thanks. Right now I'm working on my 91 LWB. Maybe I need to start a thread on that. Its a pretty mild build, but I wanted a rig with more room and I'm retiring the 95. As far as the SWB, I'm going to put an ARB front locker in it soon. That will be my next Major project with it. I Have a...

Looking at Gen II Montero's, Rear Suspension Weirdness

shifting into 4 Low I know this reply is late. But to shift the Active Track T Case into 4 low you have to push strait down on the lever at the same time time your moving it forward. Its a bit ornery but easy once you get used to it. Dont be afraid to put a little muscle into it, especially...

Land Rover Owner Seeking Help with a Montero Purchase

I don't think I would ever be able to spend the amount of money a SAS would cost on IFS replacement parts, in 10 years of hard wheeling the IFS, But I see your point, once in place and biting the bullet on initial cost it would be simpler.. If I ever do a SAS it will be for performance and flex...
