Just a suggestion, I went through this when I had my JK and was looking for an alternative to the ram air head. I ended up with a sy-klone head which separates the heavy particles and automatically ejects them, no need to empty the tray. I liked it, worked very well. Still have the head...
Voted S/T Maxx. i've been running 255/75 17s for almost 5k miles thus far. Nothing but great things to say about them. I've had on the road, in sand, dirt, mud, rocks, etc. They've done great.
Glad your truck has treated you well.
Might want to aim your headlights a bit lower if you keep getting flashed. When you added the cap on the back, it probably squatted the rear a bit and brought your lights up. Any extra weight you add back there (such as the fire wood) only makes that worse.
LC80s are great. But the newest ones are now 20 years old. Like any other vehicle, they are only as reliable as the work you are willing to put into it and how you treat it. I had a 96 i purchased with 26xxxx miles on it. Its now onto its current owner at almost 300k miles. It never let me...
Wow! Looks great. That is quite a long tongue, but hopefully you won't have to worry about the lack of tongue weight once you load down the bed like i do.
And i did about the same thing with my ranger bed trailer, just ripped out the factory wiring and used a trailer harness. Much easier...
As mentioned, get ones that you bolt on and don't worry. I have White Knuckles on my 4R, about the first mod i did on it. Cheap insurance after i bent up the rockers on my LC80.
Just drive the damn thing and fix it if it breaks. I've got a 98 with just shy of 190k miles. Burns oil like gas, but other than that, i can't complain. I purchased it with around 183-4k and did the trans filter and top off. The fluid coming out didn't look too bad. It shifts ok, no better...
Used to sleep in my LC80 with the rear seats removed. Going to try in the 5th gen 4runner. Used to just sleep with the windows closed or slightly cracked. Never had an issue with condensation, but it was fairly mild temps. I have seen people with the screens that go over the downs.
Amber up front is fine, lots of options for that. Convention has always been rear fog lights (usually 1, on the driver's side or center of the vehicle) is red and at the same wattage as the brake lights...
I commend you on your choice. I was a light/heavy/M1 mechanic in the army. Those things take a lot of abuse and keep moving. There isn't much to them. They do have a great "cool" factor to offset how terrible they are to drive. Biggest issue we had with them was overheating, so just keep an...
I haven't had any issues yet with the 2" ball pulling my trailer around behind my JK and now my 4runner. Through ditches and such, nothing super crazy, but also have never had an issue.
Someone (I think on here) did a test, they determined a 1 7/8" ball and coupler had a tad bit more than the 2"
I do agree with that. The 5th gen is pretty close to the size of the LC80, one of the reasons I chose it. But the 5th gen does manage to weigh substantially less.
I was most surprised to read today that a new F150 4x4 crew cab weighs less than a 4runner?! guess that aluminum body really helps.
There is no doubt it's capable, the question is what is really needed for the OP's travelings.
I'm sure he wants to maintain some gas mileage. I'm sure he want some comfort and quietness. From the sounds of his description, he is not planning to make an off-road dedicated beast, he is...
Weight is going to effect your ride, handling, fuel mileage and wear on components. Why do you think you need all of the mods? Where are you planning on going?
I wouldn't be afraid of the weight as long as you are able to drive the vehicle and you have it set up properly (suspension, tires...
