I agree...it's definitely held back by that. It'll be good to see some models come out with it and perhaps a better example of someone using the configurable settings to have a better comparison. In the mean time though it really makes it clear the benefits of being fully locked vs traction control.

That was a really good overview! The Bronco has made it clear where LR went wrong.

I don't speak Spanish but this video has some great off-road comparisons of the G-Wagon and the Defender- time and again, lockers win. 19:41 shows the G-Wagon pull the Defender up a hill and then the Defender tries the same

What Chevy did to the K5 Blazer is the only redesign of an Iconic 4x4 that I can think of that's worse than what LR did to the Defender nameplate. Even with the phenomenal Colorado Bison/AEV collaboration- Chevy should hear from the 4x4 enthusiast community about how terrible this decision was...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

This post has so much truth in it! It is really obvious, once you see the differences as the Grenadier and the Bronco have come out- the "new" Defender doesn't even appear to be the spiritual successor, let alone an actual resurrection. You have to squint to see any real resemblance. This was a...

No need for the name calling or telling me to shut up Corgi. I'd love to see you refute what I'm saying with actual facts or at least reasonable opinions based on facts. I think the way that the Bronco captures the spirit of the original was the way to go- people LOVE that stuff- enthusiasts...

Completely agree! The Bronco has made it so clear where LR went wrong with their styling and overall spirit of the vehicle. It's what so many of us have been saying on here and now there's another vehicle to point at and say- "see....this is the way LR should have gone" One of the many excuses...

Come on Diesel, I have standards....even I wouldn't go so far as to compare the Defender to what Chevy did to the Blazer. I think LR swung and missed- I think they could have done so much more than they did. In Chevy's case, but for the Chevy Colorado Bison partnership with AEV and how cool that...

It's been pretty evenly split between the atrocious front-end and the shoddy reliability....we could always talk about the Air Suspension again. :)

Written over 10 years ago- it's just as relevant today. @DieselRanger the clever way you write sometimes reminds me of this article https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15130489/make-mine-a-jeep-pj-orourkes-ode-to-the-wrangler/

You should listen to what the Chief Designer of the Bronco has to say about that- the purposeful design of the Bronco is modern because everything else now is so soft styled. I'd certainly call a G-Wagon a thoroughly modern and functional vehicle and it's known as the flying brick.

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

This is the way a designer of a modern 4x4 should talk- - He describes how they wanted to design something that could be modified- that giving a building block to people so they could make it their own was key - He says they wanted to design it in a way that a person with simple tools could...

I think this is one of the worst trends in Jeep customization, but at least the Jeep designers are smart enough not to make it standard from the factory

LR had a choice- they could either do this- OR, they could do this- Original Pathfinder Modern Pathfinder Search your heart and soul LR faithful..... You know which direction they went and that's an absolute loss to the 4x4 community.

I completely agree with you, but doesn't that also get at part of the problem with the Defender? It's as if they don't get that the 4x4 world, (recreational, backcountry adventuring, or overlanding) for the most part want their vehicle to look the part. I get that not everyone cares, but I'd...

When I was in my 20s I drove a TJ on 35s from Mississippi to Arizona for Army training with the top and doors off-- it was incredible- crossing parts of Texas at night when it was a little cool out. Those moments are really cool to have the ability to take the top and doors off
