Got an email from Costco that I have been sent a refund of $43 to my credit card. Gotta love that.
Haven't seen it appear in the card file yet though.
edit: got refund!!
Received the WaterPort tank on Thursday as they promised. Having looked it over I have devised a very simple system to hold it on the Front Runner rack. I have most of the bits in my supply of random metal but will have to get one more item from the hardware store to complete the fabrication...
I used a HF frame and welded up an angle frame and used sheet metal that was pop riveted to the angles. Works well and seems to be holding up as it sits outside and has for years.
the top is also an angle frame that overlaps the sides and has inset 3/8 inch plywood, and is held up by 1/4 inch...
Baja Rack, Petrol or water can holder adapted to fit Front Runner rack (extra holes drilled) used once. Will fit Baja too but no clamps for round bars. $150, buyer pays postage.
If you have a nut that fits the all-thread (it is usually 3/8 inch thread) they often fit well inside a 1/2 inch conduit (usually a 10 foot section for about $5). Cut your conduit to length put the nut in the end and tap it in, that is about the easiest way I have found to not weld.
I only used...
Thing is there so many reiterations of roof rack showers that even if this Waterport works for you there are others to try. So many on Youtube for less $$. It is just that this is easier to just buy.
Keep in mind that these are only for a roof rack and are really not portable.
I ordered one and it 'should" be delivered on Thursday, of course it went on sale 3 days after I bought it. I have been thinking about mounting it on a Front Runner rack and may have, in my designers eye, come up with a mount that will work with flat bars. several solutions come to mind. I'll...
when camping it is always on. when sitting in the LR (at home, always in the vehicle) it is off but plugged in to 2nd battery power. It is on when camping regardless of outside temp, it just doesn't cycle then. It is set for 35 deg F when camping.
The only issue I see is the mounting hardware is for a round type of mount which I do not have. I am sure I can fab up something to work on my Front Runner rack.
Did not object to steering wheel and there was not an abundance of plate. I guess if you are a purest you might object to anything not original, but then by the time it gets to market it is so old that an upgrade might be necessary. Did not like the turbo either?
I see an aerodynamic problem with sound created by all the rough surfaces and holes. Interesting idea though. Removal could be an issue in times of required use. Mount them on the front bumper, easier to get to them.
