1987 Ford E-350 Ambulance by Braun (New conversion done in 1988)
-460ci V8
-Automatic
-2 Batteries. One standard and one RV/Deep cycle. Batteries are able to be turned on and off independently. Great for work and play! Allows one battery to keep charge for starting and the RV can be used to run...
Spent another 2 nights in the trailer this past weekend, 8 total since we bought it. Batteries worked great and I love my LED lights and footswitch for the water pump. Ran the furnace every night and left a light on in the camper once it got dark until I went to bed just because I can...
This is exactly what I do. I always have a hitch pin in the truck gear bag. There is no way for it to become disconnected either if you are backing up and taking progressively harder tugs at the stuck vehicle. Don't make things more complicated/expensive than they have to be.
I'm no electrician, but the wiring I find on used equipment I purchase is always disappointing. Take for example the fuse holder, a good idea with silly execution. Previous owner used a wire tap, which in and of itself I'm not fond of for its original purpose, but to use it instead of a butt...
I wired up a foot pedal switch for the faucet. Now I can wash my hands without having to hold the handle in the up position. Should help to save on water as well as keep the germs off the faucet handle. Secured some wires with a piece of hose and a zip ties as a stand-off to alleviate...
My batteries are on the driver side, sane as every thing else. There is a vent that was plumbed to the old battery box, just need to setup a hood for it to contain the fumes I guess.
As far as the cord goes, I'd not remove the functionality completely, just be able to bypass the converter to...
The other issue I need to be aware of is weight balance. The left side of the camper has 80 pounds of water when full, 130 pounds (?) of batteries, the sink, the furnace, the fridge, the converter and CO detector all on the left side of the trailer. The right side has pretty much nothing. We...
Finally did something to the trailer. I've been researching batteries and solar and charge controllers and meters and...
Bought two 6 volt golf cart batteries from Costco last night for $88 a piece. They're big, heavy, and full of amp-hours. I tore out the old battery box and they fit in...
Awesome platform to start with. I've been amazed at how cheap I've seen higher mileage examples go for. Yours looks cherry! Not many suggestions here other than try to reuse as much of the original stuff as possible to cut down on time and expense. Get out and start using it and figure out...
From my research on solar, important points are:
Face South, not flat on the roof
Big wire in a short run to the charge controller
Controller very close to the battery and temperature compensated
No shadows on the panels. Even a small shadow can drop the panel output to less than half...
I can't wait to get to that camp spot in Toroweep. Remind me about it when Kathleen and I take off for Baja this winter.

I don't have a boat other than my inflatable tandem kayak. I was just speaking in a general sense for now. Same thing for a snowmobile and trailer. I'd need another Rev-Arc ramp or sled deck to haul a snowmobile. Not an issue for now because I don't own a sled.

I would assume so. I think there are a lot more advantages to this style than that. I don't have wet canvas to pack up, I don't have to unhook the trailer to pop it up, I don't have to heat big, poorly insulated areas in the winter etc.
