SL rating is not incorrect. It's really confusing!
An SL-rated tire has its maximum load capacity at an inflation pressure of 35 psi. XL tires can carry a heavier load when inflated to 41 psi.
That wildpeak tire (good tire btw) is a 114T tire which is rated to 2600lb/tire which is over the OE...
Seriously man, do you just make stuff up?
It was/is a JAGUAR v8. Not in ANY way related to the 4.6 used in the crown vic.
Maybe we should lock this thread. This is ridiculous.
mpinco: Great response. Thanks for taking a moment to type it out :) Seriously. Good responses like this make this thread far more enjoyable.
I fully understand the D5 style and the low volume sales... but I was talking about the Defender.
But as you said, the MSRP markup could very well be...
I sure hope it's different! That's how vehicles evolve. They get better.
The JL drives way different than a JK which is way different than a TJ. They got better. Different is good. Same is stagnation. Being caught up with the underpinnings of suspension design, especially with most folks who...
What's funny is that years ago I would make comments like this.
"THEY RUINED IT"
Now I've gotten a bit older, more mature, and have a ton more experience in the area of product engineering/development/production. And I've owned a ton more cars. And now... it makes sense.
The cars I claimed I...
Corvette isn't out. You can't drive it.
Defender isn't out. You can't drive it.
Tell me more about those driving characteristics!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::LOL::LOL:
So half the time people are yelling about how awful this car is, and the other half of the time complaining that demand is so high that dealers are marking then up $20-30k over MSRP.
So which is it? Nobody wants one or everyone does?
Is the LR3 as capable off-road as a Wrangler? No. But it's more capable than you'll ever need. I've driven all of the hardest passes and many difficult trails in CO and Moab with mine.
Can I get one in reasonable condition for under $10K? Yep.
What should I look for and/or look out for when...
Holy ... wow.
I cannot tell if you're just trolling or completely daft. Do you have any understanding of how the military chooses vehicles? Because I do and have worked in defense procurement. The Defender would not and never was designed or intended for military production. NOR IS THE...
I do all of my own work so this isn't applicable to me. But...
If I had to move away from my LR3, I'd either consider a Toyota (GIANT ASTERISK IF THEY COME OUT WITH A NEW TRUCK NOT THE CURRENT 2009 ERA ONE) or a Wrangler.
...or a Defender. Hate me.
Ha, yeah. I was telling my gf about all the hate for the defender and that was her response:
"So if everyone thinks they aren't capable does that mean we can get one for nothing like the LR3 in a few years?"
She's not wrong... maybe I should just be quiet....
Interesting. I haven't played with the tire pressures from stock (I run 33/42 per the door on the road). Now I wonder if my Xterra woulda been happier with the tires more aired up...
We can discuss objectively negative things about any vehicle, LR or not! I can hate as well as anyone, I just think it's important not to trash any of the capable 4x4 options on the market as more choice is always a good thing.
But saying that you think the air suspension is bad despite not...
Might want to read the last 100 pages or so. Myself and several other people have to keep answering this.
Positives = different ride height modes, comfort
Negative = requires more PM than coils. After 15 years mine needed some O rings, that's it.
Air suspension does not affect wheel travel...
