    Should I truss the axle?

Having done Mojave Road a couple years back, I really don't recall any place that I could have remotely done what you did... not unless I was driving too fast. Whether messing around or not, not driving for the conditions = fail. If it was dusty and visability was low, you slow way down, even...

    Should I truss the axle?

Based on what I read of your trip.... I might recommend slowing down instead. Much cheaper and you get a better view of the scenery too... :D Part of that age and wisdom thing I guess.

    Jeep Cherokee CAMPER

Offroadcamperguy, love the idea and would love to see some interior shots. Also, I assume part of the roof is cut away. What type of supports/bracing is added to keep the body flex down? More info would be great. Thanks :D

How to deal with putting your tent away when wet

I keep a vinyl tarp with the trailer and cover up the bedding area before breaking down the trailer. Like said above, keeps any of the wet canvas from touching the bedding. Only had to do this once so far.

Steering Shaft for an XJ with 4.5 lift ??

The steering shaft will have nothing to do with your lift as it does not move. The stock one would be fine but over time the rubber will degrade and will need to be replaced (assuming you have it that long). I know BigDaddy (Brian) replaced his recently and it made a world of difference for...

    Anyone want a welding project?

So, does he just need something welded up or is he looking for something fab'ed up? From how I am reading it, he wants a replacement guard built which is a fab project and not a welding project. If it's a simple weld this piece to this piece, I would be up for it but if he wants something...

    JK/J8 Flippac rumor??

Yea, I was really hoping it was going to make a showing. It was the ONLY item the wife and I were excited to see as it could possible make some very big changes for us. Guess a trip to Prescott will be in order....

Latest Issue of JPFreek Adventure Magazine Available Now

I want to thank Frank and the JPFreek crew for publishing two articles written for this e-mag. This was my first step into the published world and I hope I didn't disappoint. It was fun writing them and I hope to have more in the future. Keep up the great work!!!! Mike

    Gears in XJ

My 4.10's on 31" run exactly as my 3.55's on 28" did. With 32-33" tires, I would do nothing less than 4.56's. Living where I have to climb hill/mountains to get out of town plays a big part of that. If you are mainly a flat lander, 4.10 could do fine but you will be using 3rd gear a lot if...

    2006 Jeep Commander

Yay...made some decisions..my XJ is gettin some love...

Yep, was going to say the same thing. Basically as close to a 31x9.5 out there but you have to go with 16" wheels. I was lucky as my '00 Classic came with 16"x7" wheels stock. :wings:

Looking for a replacement GPS, recommendations?

Sorry I missed this. As for wishing I would have gone with a netbook/laptop, in our situation there is zero room to do so. Our Cherokee is tight enough as it is and the wife would never tolerate a netbook crowding her space nor I blocking the dash. For our use, I am very happy wth the Nuvi...

Looking for a replacement GPS, recommendations?

Well, I did it once when we were getting ready for the Mojave Road trip. It was a PITA as I had to take the file from one format and use a converter to a format Megellan would read and then used the SD card to upload it. It gave the waypoints but just generic names. It was somewhat useful but...

    "Safari Cab" modular hardtop project

This has been a great thread and your prototype work and drawings are awesome. You had asked about multi piece or as one piece. Here is my input. I think the multi piece would be a better way to go IF you can make sure the seems will seal up. Leaks will equal a failed product. As for why...

    Cherokee exo..

Not to debate this but that is exactly what I am referring to. I never others pressure me into doing something I don't think I would do normally. He chose to think with something other than his brain and paid the price. Luckily he had prepared for this and minimized the damage but to me, it...

    Cherokee exo..

Having just finished up a cab dolly (so I can roll my truck cab around), I used a 20' piece of .120 1.5" tubing and three cross pieces, 3' of 1.5" square tube and this thing weighs about 75 lbs. I think any cage setup, you are looking at least 200 lbs or more. Do some measuring of how much...
