Back in a Rover again, mild LR3 build

Really can't go wrong with the Duratracs or KO2s. The duratracs were on sale so that was the only reason I got them. Great choice!

Where did you camp? How long did it take to get a spot? How much traffic was there? Love me some white rim!

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

The question is whether a 300hp engine can keep a 10k lb combined weight moving? 20 years ago 300hp was the most powerful V8 you could get in a super Duty Ford. If you wanted more, you'd have to go for a 6.8 V10. The hills are all still the same size, and unlike the big v8s the 2.0 wouldn't be...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Exactly. An extra quarter inch of clearance is not worth the headache.

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Would it really though? Nowadays most anyone can afford professional camera equipment for both photo, video, and even aerial footage. Literally thousands of accounts exist to document exactly this kind of stuff.... it's not exclusive to having a big checkbook anymore. So I kind of doubt it.

    Just purchased a LR4 w/ 60K miles, now what?

Notice I didn't say not to run a 18" wheel. I run 18s as well... more profile is better without question when it comes to this stuff. My experience has been that SL tires work fine. I've got plenty of gashes in my rims, no issues with the tires. And I like the nice plush ride :)

    Just purchased a LR4 w/ 60K miles, now what?

I really don't want to start another flame war here but Land Rover didn't mis-equip the truck with non-E tires. If you're running heavy bumpers, roof stuff, 7 people and driving off road with low pressures? Sure - that's not a stock truck. Otherwise you'll be just fiiiiiiiiiiine on an SL tire -...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

It rubs. It's not too terrible - certainly not enough to stress me out. I'll snap a photo if anyone cares.

Do not convert (downgrade) the suspension. Do not install rods. Land Rover Engineers designed the truck and they designed it well. If a $80 sensor-override would enhance the capability, it would have been done from the factory. Do the maintenance, buy good A/T tires. Have fun.

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Not "needed" for 265/65, although you may run into the seam anyway but it'll just wear the fender liners a bit. I haven't done it yet on mine and I have some wear. Not planning on doing HVAC line move.

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Victory_Overland: Yes, this! And all the more reason to keep the weight off the roof! Part of the reason I really like my LR3 is because there is plenty of space for cargo INSIDE the truck. Adding roof racks and such is only adding weight and the ability add even more weight -- all in the worst...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Not a Land Rover engineer, I'm an aerospace guy :) But I'd put lots of stock into why those numbers were chosen. I also have a GAP tool and I do use it for exactly what you said, to add 1" and be able to go over 25mph, which is a huge benefit here on WA forest roads. +25mm gets you to a 60/40...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Right, I'm saying that the lift is a compromise in on-road handling and not needed in 99.99999999% of situations when driving a capable factory rig (wrangler, 4R, LR3, etc). The Rubicon isn't exactly an overland trail... the same way the obstacles in Moab aren't either.

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Yep, you're right. I've got no idea why everybody's first inclination is to lift and stuff the largest possible tires under their truck. I spent 6 months camping around the western US, looking for difficult trails on which I'd really need my lift/sliders/tires for (was in an Xterra at the time)...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

The GAP tool is pretty much unnecessary as well from a height perspective, your factory off-road mode will put the suspension into optimal droop/bump range (50/50, I measured). Adding 25mm/1" can be beneficial but only in some cases where breakover trumps articulation. Even the 265s required...

    275/65r-18 BFG KO2 on LR3?

Sorry but - why? The 265/65 is almost identical. Except now you gotta worry about rubbing and/or being stuck if you have an EAS failure. Just do the 265/65. See below... the 'look' is just fine. And please don't buy lift rods or spacers, the engineers at Land Rover are real smart, you're not...

Looking for advice from seasoned adventurers

Does White rim really take that long on four wheels? I did it back in 2011 on a DRZ400 and we didn't realize the river was so high so we essentially did the entire thing twice (out and back). It was a LONG day, but just the loop didn't seem like it would take so long.

Looking for advice from seasoned adventurers

Lots of good advice here. I spent 6+ months camping and driving around the western US. Don't worry about more recovery gear - the only time you'd ever need it was if you were specifically trying to look for roads to get stuck on. I never used any of mine and drove the entire road system in...
