There is a little button right at the plastic surround of the post. Granted, it's not easy to do, but you can remove them (on the 2dr, at least); I've done it.

I thought of something else as I was taking a long drive. Not sure if it is an issue for others, but as I'm 6'-6" tall, I find my right shin rests on the centre stack; being hard plastic, it starts to hurt after a while. I'm considering making a little discreet carved mini-cell foam leg rest...

That is just super practical, IMHO; especially for accessing gear in the middle of a jam-packed overland rig.

Yes it does. The dial that adjusts your dash lights is likely set to the "full on" locked setting; mine was when I drove it off the lot.

Have you checked out JCR Offroad bumpers? They're pretty lightweight and reasonably priced. I'm probably going with their Crusader midwidth front winch bumper.
