Personally, I like Tom's idea; if only to have a third brake light mounted on the top to allow removal of the OEM post-mounted one with a bigger spare. Though that doesn't solve the problem when running topless or with a soft top. Having a couple of LED cube backup lights would be nice though, too.

"AEV motors" are either the stock Chrysler Pentastar 3.6L, a HEMI 5.7L VVT or a HEMI 6.4L VVT. What year was your last Jeep? The 4.0L from pre-2007 was bulletproof, the 3.8L from 2007-2011 was controversial, and the early-2012 3.6L had cylinder head issues that resulted in a recall. So for...

Hmm. There *is* a break-in period, so it should get a little better...I was quite surprised by the mpgs I initially got with the 3.6L. What gearing do you have? Presumably AEV upgrades to taller gears to better match the HEMI & 35s?

Good! Curious as to your real-world mpgs. This thread has me thinking about buying an older (and cheap) 3.8 JKU and having a swap done. $25-30k for a Hemi swap + $10-15k for a pre-2012 JKU and you've got a pretty sweet platform to build up for the price of a new Rubicon at twice the fun.

Installed, with refreshed engine is about $20k. I checked, since they are local to me and i could drop off an LJ (which was my plan) and pick up a turn-key TDI Jeep. I just couldn't justify the cost...for $35k (including an LJ) plus mods and upgrades made me decide to wait and see if the 2017 is...

The only thing I don't like about those types of windows is the clunky handle lock hardware. Wish someone would come up with a more streamlined design (especially for the side windows).

Love both options! I can envision the availability of purchasing the top as a whole package, and/or the option of buying individual components to build your own. Barn door, flip up side panels, roll up soft sides/rear panel (or the ability to utilize the factory soft-top side/rear panels)...
