Discovery SVX at LA Auto Show

Ya, but no one ever said the new Land Rover looked like the run of the mill SUV/CUV/Explorer....

Discovery SVX at LA Auto Show

The Discovery SVX should come standard with 17/18" wheels while 20" should be an option for those who want to style in urban use. Navigation should also be optional/not standard.

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

My point was that if you look at a side profile of a Scout II and RRC they are basically the same. I use my old IH Scout hub tools on my Disco I and RRC. I swear the designers sat side by side. Or they sourced a design from the same intellectual property holder. - The IH Travelall goes back to...

And the Series and RRC's share heritage with International Light Line (Scouts, Travelars, .....). Both of agricultural roots and similar technology.

Technology and designs change / evolve at different rates. What was viewed as an asset can fall out of favor in the pursuit of perception. History repeats itself. Today Bitcoin comes to mind.

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

Agreed that the Dii/P38 "evolved" but they were still using the 215 Buick V8. As you point out block issues increased, likely do to emission goals, higher running temps and Bosch engine management. But, I did find this interesting: Buick V8 engine "......Unfortunately, the great expense of the...

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

Personal opinion on why Disco I & II's and RRC's are cheap. They both have the same heritage, a chassis and drivetrain derived from the Defender. All use the same engine, the 215 Buick V8 that while light and all aluminum, was early to the manufacturing processes for aluminum engines. Those...

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

Well that sucks .... Have you looked it over from underneath? The rear end damage doesn't look too bad other than bent bumper and maybe some bumper mounts. The rear cross-section looks straight although pics can be deceiving. Maybe the collision just caused a xfer case failure that was already...

Is a RRC a reasonable daily driver?

I ran a 95 as a DD and my son a 89 RRC is his DD. The 89 is over 250K and running fine. It also had "electrical" issues which where all resolved. Once the electrical and ancillary issues were all resolved it ran great. Down a little on power but ran fine. I would solve all the primary issues...

    Discovery 3 (LR3) and Discovery 4 (LR4) Registry

Can agree on a rear locker as I ran open diff Scouts for years on difficult trails. Where I disagree is on a 2 speed transfer case. Loaded for a camping trip on a back country mountain trail a single speed LR4 would slowly roast the transmission. In other situations the increase in speed...

New sticker... and an oil Leak.

My money is on the previous front end engine work inducing a leak. As for LCA bushing, yes they are oil filled and can leak when they wear out. The oil is a small dark oil drop just inboard of the tire. Worn LCA's feel like a clunk in the suspension when going over speed bumps.

    2018-2017 LR Discovery Rim/Tire Size

Well considering Colorado/the West is rocks vs. mud, them them to take some nice pictures of the pretty 20/21" wheels, for posterity. In addition, load range E as a minimum for sidewall construction. Especially low profile tires.

Range Rover Classic Upgraded Steering Parts

UK RRC's are petrol and diesel. Rule of thumb is that diesels weigh about 2X a small block V8. A Buick V8 is ~318lbs. A 300tdi is around ~750lbs. A 6.x GM around ~800lbs. Engine Power Specifications Replicate a UK RRC diesel suspension/steering and you will probably be close to factory.

    2019 LR Discovery SVX

Big wheels / low profile hey? Back to the past!

    2019 LR Discovery SVX

Seems Land Rover and Toyota use the same marketing team - SUV's racing down the trails and "looking cool" while missing the reason for the journey. Amusing the SVX is back to the 5.0L V8 and center shift stick. Still disadvantaged by 20" wheels that have no place off road.

VIDEO LAND ROVERS EXPEDITION TO THE BALKANS

Thanks Albert. Always enjoyed your journeys and videos. I suspect it takes significant effort to choreograph them. Eric - "Rich people with poor taste flaunt vacation" - Land Rovers are like Jeeps in the EU. I wouldn't characterized them as for "rich people". I've taken similar 'vacations'...

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

Nice! Welcome to the insanity. I have a 95' Roman Bronze LWB. While the 95 is a soft dash many of the parts / subsystems are the same. - Many intermittent window and sunroof issues are related to the switches. Made by MB. They can be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled. Just make sure you...
