I shall call him... "Mini Me" (2005 Jeep Liberty KJ)

MiniMe did great on the Offroad Passport Cinders trip this weekend! i still need to put a CB in and throw some hockey pucks in the rear before we get on too gnarly of a trail, but he's ready for more 'splorin!

changing up how we pack using large duffels

a vote here for the Watershed brand waterproof duffels. made in usa, comes in lots of sizes, tough, and is truly submersible (i.e. won't leak when doing 80 on the freeway in a heavy sideways downpour). the rubber "zipper" is a little bit of a PITA, so if you don't need a waterproof duffel then...

12V Solar Pelican Case Power Pack / Generator

you mentioned sealing with Marine Goop... not sure if that is any different than regular/automotive Goop but i would advise using a silicone caulk or RTV type product instead. i used some Goop to seal around some external stuff on my rig and after about a year i noticed it had yellowed and was...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

i run 3k intervals on standard dino oil, the lab report mentions 4,900 is the interval that their they are basing their average numbers on from all the samples they've gotten on that engine (grey column) - so most people must be running 5k intervals.

    Portable Jump Starter Recommendations

batteries can be constructed to optimize the peak/CCA, amp-hours, or a balance of both (the construction also affects the reserve capacity, another important rating). the average battery in a vehicle has a balanced approach. marine/rv battery banks typically are optimized for amp-hours and to...

    Best tablets for navigation?

great advice! that's exactly what i did - i had an old original droid that i used for a while in the rig to see how i would like it. my initial reaction was to keep my garmin, however when it died unexpectedly and i was forced to give the app-based gps an in depth try, i was soon sold on it and...

    Best tablets for navigation?

i get lots of tablet-envy due to mine being a 10"... i heard the Win 8 tabs are 11", but i think 11" is a myth.

    I'm back baby..2004 WJ

i'd agree that keeping it at 4" or under will minimize additional problems and cost with a WJ. you have a 2004 which came with a double cardan front shaft instead of the rzeppa, so you should be able to run a full 4" without a t-case drop. i'm curious why you are against a long-arm and what...

    I'm back baby..2004 WJ

after having crushed my radiator support resulting in needing a new radiator, a friend stitch welded a piece of 1/4" thick angle-iron to the bottom to help distribute the load from an impact. it has worked so far, i have landed on it a couple times. it won't prevent the sides of the factory...

    CB Radio help..

i'll second the Midland 75-822 as a great compact unit... i don't recommend them for open-top or doorless vehicles as they aren't loud enough in that situation. for that, the Cobra 75WXST has the Midland beat since you can do an external speaker, but i've seen several of those units fail...

    Overland Navigator

unless an RT specific version has been made available then it would not work. Windows RT tablets are not the same thing as Windows 8 tablets, RT is it's own animal which does not typically run existing Windows applications. well i'd like to have a winch, but fortunately there have only been 2 times ever that i really needed one. i'm just so darn particular about the bumper that i need to have one built to my design and i can't seem to save up enough at once to do that... all these other silly little projects call...

    Trash/waste... what to do...

one thing i've found when doing a multi-day trip is that a single garbage bag with any sort of organic waste in it (even a few drops of juice, yogurt container residue, etc) will stink terribly after day 2, and every time you open it you have to smell it. some people i know religiously rinse...
