I agree with the Lock n Roll. That was my first mod. I would also agree with the 4 and some 5 rated trails based on that list. Here's how I modified ours.

Welcome to ExPo. Very clean XJ you have. You're on the right track by taking care of the maintance items first. Make sure it is reliable in stock form, helps to keep from chasing your tail once you start modifying it. Keep in mind, once you start to modify it, things can kind of domino...

Personally, I have had my fill with dead Optima's. I would recommend looking at a Sear's Platium series as these are built by Odyssey and based on the thread regarding them, they seem to be working great. I bought one for my Jeep and moved my yellow top into our trailer.

Okay, that link work but here is what I found out trying to order it. This is an open box item, part of their clearence items. When you actually try to buy it, it comes up with an Out Of Stock message, which means, they don't have any more open box ones. You can still buy the new, unopened...

Nice XJ and welcome. Here is our with a 3" lift, 2" extended bumpstops, rear sway bar removed and front one disconnected. I only get minor rubbing at full lock but it is very light and not on the flairs.

Having been part of that OJ trailer testing (the Kamparoo) article, I can honestly say that Wrangler was WAY beyond a stock setup. IIRC it was supercharged, upgraded axles, HD everything!!! It was more then able to tow their trailer. He also had a really trick hitch setup to control sway...
