Looks great. It looks like it is based on a Mercedes fire truck? If you import it to the US is it still coded as a fire truck and therefore no duty charge? Or do the modifications make it no longer a fire truck for duty purposes?
So cool. Curious, how do you get the bike into the garage? If I remember this truck had ramps mounted on the back where those boxes are now?
Also, have you ever flat towed a vehicle (like a Jeep) behind the truck?
Found this during usual expo truck searches and I am not affiliated with the owner, etc. Anyway, looks like a cool truck made out of aluminum cabin, bulletproof windows, and other interesting details like the lifting bed, roof terrace, window covers, etc. Also, it should be importable in the...
Looks great. Would love to see some interior shots with those big windows. Wonder what the layout looks like. Maybe lounge forward, bed in rear, and kitchen on passenger side?
Imo this changes the whole deal in a bad way. I was wondering if they at least stored it properly and safely. Scavengers, mice, sun ,water? Who knows. Seeing it being picked over I would pass. If the systems have been worked over then trying to get the house side of things working again...
Here is a link to the truck on the Action Mobil site.
http://www.actionmobil.com/en/2-axle/atacama/atacama-5000-hd?id=185
Also, it appeared in what looks like the Action Mobil newsletter with some more descriptions and pics. Looks like there is only storage behind that rolling cover behind...
Too bad its not a regular Action Mobil box without a lifting roof. IMO It would be much easier to apply to another chassis without the lifting roof. Depending on the condition the box could be worth a lot more than $100K. Heck XP offered to make a cube for $125K and that certainly was not an...
Agreed. Looking at the pics the interior would need some work (at least for me). However, it looks like it has good bones where it counts so it could be a good platform for someone to finish the build. Personally, I think some interior paint, maybe some windows in the bed area, roof hatches...
I found this while searching (I have no affiliation with the seller). If anyone is looking for a Styer (or Acela truck - yes I know technically not the same thing) as an expo truck this might be for you. Chassis looks clean in the pics and the cabin has the nice (IMO) Urlich style interior...
I really like cabover trucks. Great visibility out the front and more cabin for a given length. I wish more cabover truck options were available in the US. A Mercedes 917/1017 would be perfect for my needs. What I really should do is accelerate my plans and buy Joe's truck, and go repeat the...
Awesome. Will it have swivel front seats in the cab area like the Iveco Daily's? That would really expand the living space and IMO a big benefit of the van platform vs. a truck.
I have been researching importing a MB Fire Truck and have learned that fire trucks are exempt from the 25% (gasp) import duty (if 25 years or older). I have also read that if you convert it to an expedition camper in Germany the date changes to the current date (e.g. 1985 Fire Truck with a...
Wow! What a project. So cool. While a 6x6 is big I think for my wife it could help me win the going full-time debate... sort of like an offroad Class A motorhome with amazing tankage for off-grid living.
Not that you need it, but if you are looking for 6x6 inspiration I am currently...
