I have always liked the older Mercedes rounded front trucks and looking for opinions on the feasibility of using one for lower budget (Less than $100K for the overland truck and finished cabin) overland travel starting in US, then S. America, and then Europe, etc.? For instance:
- Assuming...
Just stumbled upon this guys Youtube channel really enjoyed it. He has a VERY nice custom DAF and has been having some great adventures in it. If you have seen it; it's worth a look.

Thanks for the reply. Another alternative to flat towing could be a trailer for the Jeep. I haven't found a trailer for towing a Jeep with an off-road style suspension height and travel. Is your ATV trailer a standard trailer or specifically made for rough roads?
I also wonder if people have...
I know this is an old thread, but wondering if people with these large Expo rigs flat tow Jeeps and drive them off-road? Nothing super aggressive but wondering if it would reliably work to flat tow down fire roads, washboard, etc.?
I believe those are all on stock 4x4 Fuso's. I was wondering if it is possible to do a 4x4 conversion on a new Fuso and how much that would cost. Adding a camper is the easier of the two I think. I just think $300K is a lot... I would be really happy with a composite body or an Alaskan if I...
I wonder if it would be possible to have a company do a 4x4 conversion like Earthcruiser that could result in a less expensive solution? For instance, $30K (ouch) to modify a Fuso to 4x4 and then add an Alaskan flatbed camper (or build a composite camper box)... still a lot less expensive than...
So how does the 2020 chassis work? They buy a new Fuso and replace the engine, trans, and axles? A gas engine makes a ton of sense.
I would add a composting toilet and some way to add a canvas cover over the cabin section... it would look more like a delivery truck for those times you want...
Noticed this ad for the "Ski Bus" Sprinter for sale over on the AWOL custom van site. I have no affiliation with the seller but I do like their vans. Pricey but if you are looking for high-quality yacht-style interiors they make nice vans.

Our first van we had (rented) had that layout. It works really well and sitting in the back with the view is awesome. In our current van the rear couch faces forward.... I miss the side facing couches. GLWS
I haven seen pics of 144s with a raised platform bed with another bed underneath. I think it was on the Sprinter Source forum under the Safari Condo builds. Safari Condo website might have some pics. Store stuff where the bottom bed is during the day and then setup camp with bed for 4 at...
Nice write up and truck. What is the overall length? Also, how long is the flat bed?
Heck forget working on a Hi-lo camper and just add an Alaskan flatbed camper to it (with a matching blue stripe). That would be an awesome setup for less than $100K... GLWS.
Awesome! Can’t wait to see the build. Always fun to watch yours. This time I actually have a 144 Sprinter and might get some ideas.
Quick question. Wondering why the choice of a Sprinter instead of maybe a Transit with Quigley conversion? We love our Sprinter but I do wonder about future...
Thanks Clinton. That is very nice of you. We aren't ready to buy our next camper yet. We currently have a Sprinter Campervan and it works really well for us for how we camp out East. In the future we plan to be out West more and looking for more off road capability. However... a Tacoma with...
Thanks or posting the video. The more I see this camper the more I like it the best over a GFC, Vagabond, etc. For my purposes it would work perfectly. I wonder if they offer a rear door screen? Side screens would be easy to add (magnetic). Also, with an awning room and the camper sides...
Great build that’s similar to what I wanted to see. With both sides open I bet it’s nice and airy inside vs other camper options without opening sides. Thanks for sharing.
Below is a link to the Nonurbia Flippac I mentioned. Their layout is similar but they have totes in the aisle section...
Thanks for posting all the pics. Great to see one in silver. Quick question... do both bed panels need to be lowered to use the bed (I am 6 feet) or can you open the smaller front section to go to the lower area?
