    Tips for trailer charging?

Your trailer will have a 7-pin cord that terminates somewhere in the trailer, likely near the tongue. If it is anything like mine it will terminate at some sort of distribution block. Locate the "always on" 12v wherever the cord terminates and tap in there. I'm not sure about a blue wire...I...

    Tips for trailer charging?

Weird, I just answered this question in another thread not 5 minutes ago... I use a BCDC1212T from Redarc to charge my trailer batteries (a pair of 100Ah LifePO) while on the move. It is designed to work with the factory 7-pin plug and has worked very well for me. It isn't a super-fast charge...

    Charging trailer battery

I use a BCDC1212T from Redarc to charge my trailer battery on the move. It is specifically designed to be used with a factory 7-pin connector and can operate on an input voltage down to 9v. No need to run expensive, heavy custom cables for this purpose - just buy a charger made for the job. It...

    Off Grid Trailers

Congrats! Make sure you check the titling requirements in your state. In MT we were required to have a VIN inspection by a local LEO since the trailer was directly imported to us without going through a dealer.

New Power Build | Mission: 3 weeks off grid remote work | Input? Specifically - solar panel mounting solutions?

If you are going to be depending on them for long periods then I would highly recommend going with portable solar panels, not hard-mounted. Especially since you only have a single 100Ah battery you are going to need to get good, direct sun on most days. I've gone close to 4 weeks without ever...

    Electrical Panel Backboard

Most buildings have all of the electrical components mounted on plywood so I don't see why that would be an issue in a camper....

    fridge... battery..solar..questions

You will want something like this for power distribution, connected to the battery through something like this. Switching can be handled wherever it is convenient coming from the fuse block. The solar controller can be connected either directly to the battery or to the input lug of the circuit...

Jackery 1000 vs dual battery vehicle set up for running ARB fridge.

OPs use case was specifically for running a fridge - i.e. relatively high draw while the vehicle is not running. Also, the fridge is only used occasionally. I think a portable unit is the better solution for that use case. Internally mounted comms are typically going to be operated while the...

At what point do you stop carrying spares? Do you have a spare driveshaft? Axles? Wheel bearings? CV joints? Shocks? Springs? Do you just tow an entire spare vehicle behind to ensure that you can always fix anything that might break? At some point you just have to trust (hope?) that the vehicle...

    Off Grid Trailers

As a result of some bad advice from my Garmin device I ended up on an atv trail in Montana with my Expedition. It was barely wide enough for the Tacoma and once I was in, I was committed to going forward. Some very slow and careful driving got me through the trail and back to a more proper road...

    Interesting take on vehicle modification

A lot of good points in the article but this one is problematic: "If you run aftermarket driving lights, wiring them up to the high beam stalk (with an additional switch to enable and disable them entirely) will allow you to easily switch them off when other drivers approach." That is exactly...

    Winch contactors/ relay

You may need something different depending on your winch but I use one of these for my ComeUp Seal 9.5. Although the winch is rated at 400 amps it doesn't require a breaker that large. The 200 amp breaker I linked to will allow 400 amps for about 30 seconds - in the unlikely event that the winch...

You may want to consider a circuit breaker rather than a straight switch so that you have protection while the winch is running as well.
