Either way, the portable seems best for OPs use case.
Personally, I run a secondary battery to eliminate *any* possible instances of not starting in the wild...
My Tacoma didn't come with a rear sway bar but I ditched the front when I had the 2.5 inch Icons installed (with 700lb springs up front). My rig is setup for full-time living, with a winch in front, so yes, I carry a load full-time (probably about 200-300 pounds over GVWR). I haven't had any...
A dual battery setup is really only ideal as an emergency backup *starter* battery - in which case the secondary battery should be a *starter* battery, matched to the primary. If you are running accessories from the secondary you kind of lose the "emergency backup" part of the deal.
Stick with...
It is certainly not cheap but an Icon setup with adjustable shocks can cover a lot of these bases. Stiffen it up for highway driving and it will handle better than stock. Loosen it up for desert driving and it will handle better than stock. Just don't run it loose at high speed on the highway...
So I assume that means you started on the Hole in the Rock side? Good to know that the upper end is washed out since I was hoping to do the entire Hole in the Rock-->Left Hand Collet-->Smoky Mountain Rd loop in the spring. Guess we'll just have to go as far as we can!
I don't understand, if it is reliable, why does it need to be field fixable? It seems to me that "field fixable" is an important quality for something that is NOT reliable...I can't do much field fixing of my modern Toyotas but they have been reliable so that isn't really an issue....
I guess as long as there are old men there will be complaints about new technology and romantic visions of "the way things used to be"...You are saying the same thing that old men said about cars back when cars first came around. Why not just stick with a horse and an infinitely...
I am so glad to hear that this is the type of experience that current buyers are having! I ordered mine in April 2020 and received it in September 2020. My experience was anything but a "pleasure", with communication being particularly lacking. It seems they've got some of the kinks worked out...
If you ever end up in the unfortunate situation where you do roll a trailer you will immediately see the wisdom in one side rotating. If the trailer is going to roll you don't want it to also pull the TV over. You can manage to drive away from the situation if *only* the trailer rolls. I've seen...
Bear in mind that lots of awnings and walls means lots of added weight. You may only set them up now and then but you will move them everywhere you go.
Our trailer is packed for an indefinite period on the road (we do not have any other permanent "home"). Our last trip spanned AZ, CA, NV, UT...
LOL! Virtually all the world's armies also purchase from the low bidder.....
I use a standard 2" ball on the TV with one of these from Ark Corporation on the trailer. It has all the convenience of a ball (easy connect\disconnect, can hook up to just about any vehicle without a specialized...
I have done both midsummer in the northern Rockies and midwinter in the desert. I have a 180 watt suitcase unit and a separate100 watt panel. Peak output is about the same for both summer in the north and winter in the south, it'll just run at peak for more of the day in the summer.
The 180...
What I was trying to get across in the other thread is that although the total internal dimensions of the Expedition and Boreas are pretty much the same, the internal storage compartments are much larger in the Expedition.
This is the Boreas interior storage area:
This is the Expedition...
I think that you would find that the rear hatch\door only provides protection from the weather in theory. Rain never really comes straight down and is almost always accompanied by wind. It's really the wind that is going to cause trouble with cooking in either case. When cooking must be done...
It's great to see this thread finally getting some life!
We have done few nights in ours when the temp got into the low 20s but it warmed up into the 60s during the day. If I suspect it may get below freezing overnight then before packing it in for the night I will run the hot water for a bit...
I run a Taco, not a Chevy, but I can't recommend Icon highly enough - with external reservoirs, adjustable CD valves and their UCAs. It'll feel like a completely different rig! By from an authorized dealer and have them installed by said dealer and you'll be pretty well taken care of.
I'd also...
