Looking for help with a weirder build: trailer w house battery, towed by van with house battery. What do?

Any chance you could use propane heat to eliminate the need for battery systems capable of running a heater all night? It would greatly simplify your electrical needs.

OBA - How much does an air tank help?

I carry a 10lb Power Tank in a Track Bag in my Tacoma. It fits nicely on the floor behind the drivers seat. It'll fill a 275/70/17 from 20psi to 35psi in about 20 seconds. No wiring, no hoses, no hassle. It just works every time. If filling tires is your primary concern (as it is mine) then I...

    Boring but necessary: Insurance question

I've used State Farm for many years and have had good experiences with them. My Tacoma is also heavily modified. I was told that anything that is permanently mounted to the vehicle is covered by my policy - I just have to keep receipts in case anything is damaged\stolen.

What are the dimensions? I might have a non-4Runner use for it...

    Ultimate camp shoe?

Why? While it may have been disconcerting, despite being 5" from your foot the snake apparently made no effort to bite you. I'll take comfortable feet over the one in a million chance that I might run into a snake who's in a biting mood. The only issue I ever have is needing to keep an eye out...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Thank you all for your kind comments! This thread took me 2.5 hours to put together so I'm glad it was enjoyed! Cheers!

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

While the first floor of the cabin was fairly cosy - and even featured a propane fridge and propane wall lanterns - the second floor, where the beds were, was your basic attic with bare floors, one bare window at each end and at least 8 million flies....Our friend chose to sleep on the couch on...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Well, we took several drives to explore the area, walked around in the desert a lot, read a lot of books and occasionally (when we had to) did some work. I've spent a good amount of time just sitting and looking at the mountains...This is our full-time life so we basically just live, we just...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

After expo we were finally ready to get back to southern Utah at last - but again, not for as long as we'd hoped...We spent a week at this spot during which we had a bit of rain and, of course, plenty of wind. I am completely in love with Juniper forests - I have come to believe that my own...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Bugging out of Silverton early at least gave us a bit more time to spend exploring New Mexico before we had to get to the expo. Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico were all states we had never camped in before so we were really excited to add them all to the list! I already know what you're going...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Continuing the journey to Flagstaff took us through western Colorado. I highly recommend driving the little roads north-south through western Colorado. It's an experience, especially with a trailer. We did a quick overnight at this spot because WY turned us into gluttons for wind-punishment...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

With the trailer work completed, we now had a little over 2 weeks to get down to Flagstaff for OE West. Neither of us had ever been to Wyoming before so that seemed the obvious route. The drive took us through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. That is certainly some beautiful country...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Still looking to outrun the smoke we headed up to northern Montana - with mixed results. When I drove over this bridge I realized right away that I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't get a picture ? This is the Fairview Ranger Station (way) outside of Libby, MT. This represents the...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

In an ultimately futile effort to outrun the smoke, we moved farther north and up to higher elevation. Alas, after a few days, the smoke caught up with us again anyway... This spot is at about 9900ft elevation and is the highest point we have camped on this trip. It is also the place where I...

There and Back Again, a Goats' tale - part 1

Greetings fellow Overlanderists! While this trip is not really "completed" I don't plan to post too often so I'm posting in Overland Trip Reports... We began this leg of our journey on Aug. 1, 2021 in Bullhead City, AZ. When we set out, the only firm plans we had were an appointment in...

    Charging options?

If you just need to keep a few devices charged for a few days, Goal Zero makes some good, rugged USB power banks. I have a few of the Venture models and they've worked nicely for me. If you end up driving anywhere during your stay you can easily recharge them while you drive.

How many hours, will this specific battery charge this specific fridge?

I rarely run a full 48 hours without recharging but I have done it just to make sure that I can in a pinch. I run a few more items than you are talking about (specifically a cpap overnight, which is a bit of a draw, but very little compared to a fridge). In reasonable temperatures (70s F) I use...
