    Awnings

I've got a small awning on my Jeep TJ. The mounting brackets stay on all the time, but the awning comes off with four bolts. So most of the time it is off the Jeep and stored in the shop. Only takes a few minutes to take off or put back on. Mine's a cheap ebay awning: Car Tent Awning...

    kayak/tent trailer

A lot of times those boat trailers look big, but the axles are weak and light-duty. Upgrading axles is cheap insurance.

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

If I could park, and be inside a pop-up hard-top RTT in 30 seconds and crawl inside my sleeping bag... oh heck yes. I just need the proper vehicle to mount one. Till then... I'll have to run with what I've got. Would be much cheaper than a small teardrop camper.

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

You're welcome! I was repurposing something I had on hand with the tent cot. I've yet to take the Willys and trailer out on an adventure... I need to fix that. Since my tent cot is mainly used for sleeping, the lack of headroom isn't really an issue (and I've used it for multiple month-long...

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

My favorite set-up (once all set-up) is my 8x10' Browning dome tent (cost a little over $100) with a full-size cot inside. I can store stuff under the cot, I can have my full-size camp chair inside, and my little propane heater. And I can stand-up inside! Great if you're going to be at the...

Why so many negative YouTube videos about RTTs?

You wanted to see a tent-cot repurposed as an RTT? Here's my Cabela's double tent cot mounted on top of my lil' home-made trailer (same principle applies if you wanted to mount it on top of a vehicle; you would just need to purchase a ladder and figure a way to secure it). It takes just a...

    C6 rev tent

I just got an email from C6 (amazing how when you look at something on-line, you suddenly start getting emails and such from them). Anyways... for Christmas they're having free shipping on everything if I read it right. Use the code SANTADELIVERS at checkout. I don't know how long the offer...

    C6 rev tent

I'm intrigued by it too. Do you have a link to Scott Brady's review? Found it: Rev Tent by C6 Outdoor :: The All-in-One Roof Top Tent, Ground, and Bed Tent - YouTube The tent itself is $800 (very expensive to me if you were just going to use it as a ground tent) and weighs 25lbs. Then to...

    Transporting a kayak question

You guys make my kayak look like a toy (10' Pelican). I'd love to do a multi-day trip. Mine's good for day trip paddling though. I prefer to carry the kayak upside down so if it rains I'm not collecting water inside.

How would you setup a full size tablet/Gps uint in this interior?

I believe RAM sells the parts separately. You can see in my pictures above the steel plate that mounts to the front seat mounts. You should be able to easily fab such a mount, and then get the upright pole and adjustable arms and tablet mount. Just a suggestion.

How would you setup a full size tablet/Gps uint in this interior?

I used a RAM mount on my 98 TJ. It attached to the passenger seat frame. Although I did add a custom spacer mount to move the pole over and back some (and modified the mount itself to bring it back some so the glove box could open all the way), it worked great. I was using a large apple...

I do it unless it is above my head; then I pay a qualified shop to do the work.

    Narrow(est) awning?

Right now the side awning just fits between the HAM antenna up front, and the CB antenna in the rear. I've thought about a 270 degree awning, but I would need a short one (which they make), and one in which the poles in the rear don't interfere with the trailer tongue. Plus this one looks...

    Narrow(est) awning?

I'm looking for a narrow awning to put on the back of my Jeep to kinda connect the tent to the back of the Jeep. I found one 4'6" (54") wide, but really I need one no wider than 44". Any wider and it would hit the awning mounted on the side of the Jeep. Any suggestions?

    Axle Confusion

"And best of all IMO the vertical clearance is higher, and if kept in mind when designing the frame, can (along with the floor height) be put wherever you want it". I would argue that one. You can adjust vertical clearance with different size spring perches, shackle length, putting the axle...

    Axle Confusion

Yes - it is hard to beat the simplicity of a straight axle. And you have so many more options compared to the Timbren system. Different axle widths, spring options, etc.

Novice Needs Your Guidance to help get started

New vehicles are expensive! Since you have some nice vehicles already in your stable that you want to keep for now, have you thought about a small trailer like a little teardrop? Axle Confusion

Just throwin' this out there. A 3500lb axle is within a fraction of an inch the same diameter as a Dana 44 from the rear of an old CJ2A/3A Willys Flatfender. And most trailer springs are 1.75" wide; again the same width as the springs on the old Willys CJ2A/3A. So if you use the spring...
