To pintle or not to pintle?

    1. Because I can. It makes a pintle even better. When I first became aware of them (rotating NATO hitches), I knew I wanted one. 2. If my trailer were to go on its side without being able to fully rotate, something is going to get twisted and possibly get damaged on the trailer. Hopefully...

To pintle or not to pintle?

I'm going to take the pin to Tractor Supply or another type place in town and see what I can find. I can also order a replacement and see about drilling a hole in the end for a tether.

To pintle or not to pintle?

So there you have it - if you want to go with a pintle hitch, you've got the option of having either a pintle hitch that doesn't have the ability to rotate (and is much cheaper in price), or you can get one that has the ability to be either fixed in place, or able to rotate (for about $300)...

To pintle or not to pintle?

So I am pleased - I've finally got the ability to have unlimited twisting of my trailer. Just one thing makes me a little nervous about this hitch. If you notice in this picture with the hitch rotated 90-degrees, I've got the pin pulled out (and I have it laying on the floor). Technically...

To pintle or not to pintle?

This Dixon Bate hitch seems more refined than my "who knows how old" military surplus pintle hitch. The top of the Dixon Bate is also bulkier, so the lunette ring doesn't go straight up like it did with my military surplus pintle hitch. Instead of 90-degrees up, it'll go 58-degrees up (down it...

To pintle or not to pintle?

I have a Dirtworx rear bumper and swing-away spare tire carrier. The swing-away portion just barely clears the top of my old pintle hitch. I don't know if you could put a credit card between the top of my military surplus pintle hitch and the bottom of the swing-away it is literally that...

To pintle or not to pintle?

Some people complain that a pintle hitch set-up is noisy. Lemme run something past you for your consideration. I run one of those lunette rings that goes inside a 2" receiver hitch on the front of my trailer. It is loose in there, and pivots on the pin. Watch the video (make sure sound it...

To pintle or not to pintle?

I just got back from church too. Pictured below are my lunette ring's measurements. So the military ring is bigger than the one a lot of us get that slides into a 2" receiver. Good to know. Thanks!

To pintle or not to pintle?

Do me/us a favor. Measure the outside and inside diameter (hole diameter) of your military lunette ring. I want to compare it to our 2" receiver ones we use. Thanks.

To pintle or not to pintle?

Ok... here you go with a "regular" pintle hitch. Lunette ring in the down position. Looks like 90-degrees to me (it is just hanging there). You can see all the room (or "slop") the ring has inside the pintle jaws for twisting movement. The weight of the angle finder is actually having the...

To pintle or not to pintle?

I love it! You beat me to it with the angle finder. However, I'll bet you would have had better measurements with the pintle hitch if you didn't use one with the ball mount. I'll have to see what I can do with mine and post pictures. Thanks!

To pintle or not to pintle?

On the WWII trailers, the lunette ring sits in a lateral tube. It rotates/spins 360 degrees on its axis facing forward. Look at the first picture in post 61. The lunette ring also pivots/swings up and down in the pintle hitch. But even if neither can rotate, there is enough slop inside the...

To pintle or not to pintle?

Yeah; they had it figured out back then. Rotating front lunette ring so the trailer and jeep could go over any type of uneven terrain; no tailgate so it was watertight (could even float). A base of 40" x 72", built in hand brake, and just built solid. A lot of these are still on the road...

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

Camping and roughing it are not necessarily the same. I like to be comfortable. Call me soft. Speaking of ovens.... I've got one of these Camp Chef stove/oven combos. It takes up some space, but it is nice when cooking dinner on the stove and making biscuits in the oven below. Mine's a...

To pintle or not to pintle?

Yes. If one of them can rotate (pintle or lunette ring) , you now have a 360 degree multi axis hitch. Uncle Sam had it figured out in WWII. Currently neither of mine rotate and I still have plenty of twisting ability (just not 360 like you'll have).

To pintle or not to pintle?

Just got an update today (31 Jan) from UPS for my rotating pintle hitch from GB... expected delivery 3 Feb. If correct, that is quick! But even a non-rotating pintle hitch will allow full swing left to right, full up and down, and a good bit of twisting (as much as the slop between the lunette...
