LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Will you really be able to tell the difference between a M&S tire vs. an M&S with the same tread design but slightly different block spacing?

Thinking we are splitting hairs here. Quick google: Why is the General Grabber AT2 size 235/70R16 rated for severe snow but the 245/70R16 not? Read down through the comments to replies from the manufacturer and from TireRack. All AT2's are M+S. Per Continental all are snowflake rated. Per...

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

As the 25th anniversary Great Divide Expedition found - "Other than some flat tires and scuffed wheels, we had no mechanical issues" They were probably running stock 19/20" wheels with P-metric rated tires. LR doesn't modify from stock for this marketing effort.

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Agree that E-rated tires are not appropriate for off the show room floor. At the same time SL are on the low end, your pavement pounding SUV. Thinking 112 tires are too low for such a heavy vehicle. Then again LR saw fit to equip the LR4 with 19/20" wheels. As the 25th anniversary Great Divide...

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

No, for max psi you would need to follow the tire manufactures spec. Tire construction will set the max psi. This is where the industry gets a little vague. The 265/65-18 Duratrac max psi is 51lbs and is still a P-metric SL rated tire. But no one runs their tires at max pressure. That's where...

SL or XL are P-metric passenger vehicle tires and depending on tire, have from 2 to 6 plies? You would need to determine that for each tire. Tire Tech Information/General Tire Information LT in E range is the old 10-ply

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

XL tires are simply P-rated tires that can be run at higher pressure, increasing load capacity. P-rated 35psi XL-rated 41psi The heavy LR3/4 will roll these tires in corners, with shorter tire life. Towing a trailer with my LR4 I could 'feel' the truck squirm with the P-rated tires it had on...

    New to the LR World

Agreed. The real project is building the new engine properly to address the host of issues introduced over the history of the Rover V8. If one can afford it, a block with tophat liners would be a good start.

Tire setup for winter adventure LR3

Not sure Winter tires (Blizzaks, etc) would be a good match for the heavy LR3/4. Winter tires use soft compounds to stay flexible at low temp. I've had Blizzaks and could feel the car understeer on corners. Can't image 6500 lbs on a winter tire. Forget emergency handling on dry pavement. Since...

Jeep guy needs some LR info

This is a path many of us take, from a toy (Jeep) that is fun when there are just 2 of you, family begins to grow, 2 kids, more stuff, older, less hard core wheelin, you find yourself hauling more stuff camping, look around and start thinking about that next vehicle that is more comfortable...

    Tyre presssures over rocks??

Thinking for 19/20" wheels you may want to increase tire pressure to prevent side wall damage. Sounds counter-intuitive but I've seen many recommend this strategy. As for those who move to 18" or smaller, tire choice is critical. There's a good review of all-terrain tires in Overland Journal...

Toyota guy looking at making a switch to a LR

My son has a 89 RRC. His friend, a Toyota pickup owner, rode with him and was surprised at the visibility and seating position of the RRC. He said "I can see!"
