Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

You still have responsibility to operate a vehicle within a "reasonable" expectation....people get denied for all sorts of reasons and I bet you anything there is a clause outlining something to the effect that I proposed. If the truck fails and somebody gets killed you better believe your...

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

I think there were some transmission differences too from F250 to F350 also for a few years. I don't think you could ever hit 50% of GVWR that would be lighter than the curb weight of truck.....when it comes to loading, it's % of Payload capacity.

What about the rest of the drivetrain? Presumably BMW is not going to be outfitted to work on axles, transfer case, steering, brakes or any body/frame related stuff?

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

The insurance may not specifically call out "GVWR" but I'm sure it's called out like "....any operation outside of intended use as described and qualified by manufacturer....". Capacities fall under that 'umbrella' and why manuf. spend so much time putting very specific capacities around their...

Here is the OEM's response to GVWR...get a bigger rear axle...randomly came across this on the Ford site.

Any announcement of support network yet? I saw the article on the exp landing page, they are being delivered in the US....are folks going to take delivery without any way to get them worked on?

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

My personal opinion is keep a larger factor of safety (as many believe) but much of the chatter about unsafe and reckless was obviously not directed at you, more to the ones saying a trucks can handle much more than their stated capacity and in particular the situation the OP is in and the ones...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

So wouldn't his truck fall under the red then? That would require the vehicle manuf. unless I am missing something.

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

Off all the rigs that are an exception to overloading, the PowerWagon is at the top....it's a de-rated 3/4T platform due to soft springs, sneaking just above GVWR with upgraded springs wouldn't bother me as much as all the other rigs out there....liability aside.

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

The OP was not just talking on a flat paved hwy per his first post, I think some folks tried shifting the conversation to that, regardless the ethos of this website is offroad expedition use so that's the lens the majority of us viewing this through.

Per my post in the other thread - mechanic that signed off = knucklehead, big risk and is clueless.

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

That 'mechanic' is a knucklehead - from a courts perspective, I'm not a lawyer, but would assume the mech is fully liable for any issues if there was any legal action down the road. I know people disagree with me, I'm fine with that, but overloading rig like this IMO is irresponsible....but...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

On second look, it seems like they missed a form: "If the vehicle has been modified, such as the addition or removal of axles, or you are requesting a change to the manufacturer weight specifications, Form MV-426B must be completed." Form MV-426B: I am requesting a r street rod, r collectible...

Tacoma that's 1600 lbs over GVWR... recertifying and wheeling

All they are doing is transferring or allowing the transfer of liability to a 3rd party from the OEM, in this guys case, it's his buddy mechanic who signed off on it based on pictures. Any legitimate mechanic wouldn't touch this for a random unknown person and a bet that mechanics insurance...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

I like the new Hard Body Frontier - not sure what the specs are yet, but it's a cool, simple rig that Nissan is typically known for. https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/nissan-brings-back-the-hardbody-truck-with-a-tribute-model/ I LOVED my 19' Ranger for what it was, but small bed that I had...

    The Status of Overlanding Today

I don't know about anybody else but I get excited when I see streamlined, simple "expo" rigs, like what the old guy down the street used to go explore & hunt with and gave ZERO &*$@ about what anybody else thought. Maybe 1" oversize AT tires, some Rancho shocks, simple winch bumper and some CB...

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

That is a very charlatan-esque technique - make somebody disprove your claims if they can't, it's gotta be true! You made the claim about all trucks and I said show me the money - still waiting outside of one example and a handful of cross reference parts. Here I'll quote you again: "Running...
