Thank you guys , I think I got may answer. original discussion on 4x4wire was wrong and misleading for me as I thought Gen2 and 2.5 were sharing their engine with Chrysler which was not correct. I guess you can't believe any thing on internet , that is why I posted here to make sure. Thx again.

I am very much appreciate you posted you buying experience with us. I find two first owner within 300 miles were I live, however dealer asking way more money they should be ,for example 05 2 with appx 100K for $8500 and 03 with 80K miles for 7K.

I was wondering what is difference between gen III year 2002 and 2003-2006 Montero's. I know in Gen 3 after 2003 Mitsubishi used 3.8L engine , but what else is different, seems like 2001 and 2002 deals are better that 2003-06. Thx

wow, that is good find with 57K miles, how much did you end up paying for, the lowest millage I was able to find was 89K for 03 and dealer is asking 7K for it. Thx

agreed. with the price of$5800 I can get 2002 or 2003 with same millage. beside being body on frame what other advantages gen 2.5 offer over gen 3? I like the look of gen 2 and 2.5 because they are taller, however it is hard to find one in good condition.

Thx, the one I am looking at is one owner, but no record of timing belt service record. interior looks fine, however driver site window doesn't operate correctly and rear hatch door handel is broken from outside. planning to see it this weekend will 1400$ is good starting price.

what does 1999 Montero's which was sold in Purto Rico compares to U.S models, they look like pre-1998 in U.S. I came cross one with 170K mileage on it, I believe it is LS since I don't see orange sticker on driver site, there is no record of timing belt were replaced, but interior looks ok...
