Saw the Bowen flatbed at overland expo this weekend. The craftsmanship is amazing and the utility of having side boxes with a slide in, but at stock bed height is fantastic.
My only reservation is the attachment points. Using four small L-track d-rings to secure a 1500-2200 lb truck camper...
Still tinkering with the shower setup, but mounted the shower head to the big white
hinge. Then poked it through the curtain. The button on the shower head turns the water on/off - so hands free like a regular shower!
I’m going to experiment with three different basins. One is a black plastic bus boy bin, another is a tall clear plastic bin, and the last is a doggy pool. I am thinking the doggy pool will work best because it packs down small and has a side drain. Ideally I can hook a hose to the side and...
Interesting - so the above version of the hard wall Base Camp (9?) for sale has a pass thru. But sounds like that option maybe only be available on the Summit going forward?
I’ve been researching this 1up vertical mount that some of the sprinter van crowd use. It looks like the attachment points are adjustable, but not sure if there is enough vertical space on the rear HBE molle rack to securely mount the rack and support the bike…but maybe…
If you were to get the HBE how would you carry mountain bikes?
An extended hitch extension with bike rack to avoid the rear HBE kick out?
Or mount vertical bike racks to the rear molle racks?
A lower flatbed would be nice so the slide-in Camp-X doesn’t have such a big gap with the cab.
Do you know general cost for the Bowen flatbed? (I’m assuming they could figure out a way to mount a Camp-X)
Hard to decide which direction to go.
Definitely pros and cons for each model.
Below is my back of the napkin math on the cost of each.
53k Camp-X (43k), upgrades/install (10k)
76k Camp-X (43k), flatbed (12k), storage boxes (6k), upgrades/install (15k)
85k Camp-FX (58k), flatbed (12k)...
The extra storage is really nice. Looks like they had to make the side window a little smaller than a normal Camp-X.
I wish there was a rear side storage opening on the left side to make it easier to slide in long items. Looks like they made the molle rack longer on the left side instead...
I was able to remove the freezer by opening the fridge door as wide as possible, pulling the freezer compartment out, and angling it down to the left. Took a bit of wiggling, but eventually was able to slide it out
