2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

I've never owned a FWC, but we've been able to fit quite a bit of stuff into the various storage compartments of the Camp-X. Of course we pack small as if we were backpacking. We also bought some plastic drawers for under the sink to organize utensils, cooking stuff, etc. I mounted a trasharoo...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

Turns out the smell we were smelling was from the foam mattress. We pulled it out of the camper and took off the quilted cover. Hopefully letting it air out for a few weeks will dissipate the chemical odors my wife and I both seem to be sensitive to. If not, we'll buy a different mattress.

We considered the Scout, but wanted more than a shell with a 5 gallon water bottle bolted to the wall and we didn’t want to wait 12 months. Plus the popup Camp-X has a much lower center of gravity than the tall hard-walled Scout, which can become critical when navigating off camber 4x4 roads...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

For those of you that have owned a Camp-X for awhile, does the chemical smell ever go away? If our Camp-X is closed up for a few days, when we first open it, there is a strong chemical smell. I am not sure if the smell is from the cushions, flooring, or walls? Once we open up the fan vent...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

We have driven and camped in our Camp-X in snow, rain, and sleet without any leaks from the roof. The seal around the roof ‘cap’ does not look right with those separated gaps. It almost looks as if there is extra sealant on some of the corners. I don’t have access to my Camp-X right now, but...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

We setup the Joolca tent next to the truck and feed the shower hose in the side zipper. We like it because it’s is fully enclosed which is nice when it’s cold or windy out. Also it has two compartments, so you shower in one and dry off / change in the other. It packs up and slides between the...

Check out skymannnn on Instagram too - he did a bunch of really cold winter camping and snowmobiling this last winter.

*SOLD* RIGd UltraSwing Hitch Carrier Mega-Fit with Front Runner table, mounts, all weather cutting board, 8 lug (8x6.5) 2.5" & 2" Receiver

Yes this is for full-size trucks (however I think if you removed the sleeve and installed a 2" (vs 2.5") wedge it would work on vehicles like LandCruisers, etc. The ding on the front runner table was from the table contacting my truck camper on a bouncy road. Five bikes on a vertical bike rack...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

I only have one vent/fan over the kitchen and so far it's been fine. But I haven't used my Camp-X in the summer yet, so we'll see. I would get both factory installed if you have the option. As far as the Molle rack, I would get both sides on the back too. Very versatile for maxtraxx, extra...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

It was definitely winterized - lots of pink fluid was coming out when I was testing the pump. I took apart the pieces of pipe that I could unscrew and learned a lot more about pex and plumbing than I ever wanted to know. Apparently there are 3 different styles of crimps (rings, caps, and...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

Well that is disappointing. Filled up the water tank for the first time since purchasing from the dealer and noticed a leak between the blue line coming out of the water tank and the drain valve to the outside. I was able to take out the section of blue pipe between the water pump and the...

2020 Overland Explorer Vehicles (OEV) CAMP-X pop-up slide-in pickup camper (renamed "Back Country" as of 2023)

Thanks for the insights chadx - definitely gives me more to ponder. I haven't had a chance to take the mattress out and take a look, so your measurements help. The hinge appears to be the Achilles heel with any kind of under bed storage system. The only other option I can think of off the top...

Thinking about ways to squeeze more storage out of the Camp-X.... has anyone considered building a 4-6" tall platform with gas struts like the FWC Flatbed Hawk? This would provide a ton of storage for clothes under the bed. See this video at 3:28 Could be something really basic like this...

Modern truck camper for an adventurous family of five?

If you pack like you are backpacking and have an external setup (like a CLAM screened enclosure) you'll really only use the camper for sleeping. Not sure how you'll figure out the AC tho - maybe a portal unit hooked to a small generator?

2020 Northstar Liberty - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

I've just started researching truck campers (currently in a land cruiser), and your reply was really helpful. I'm thinking of going with a RAM 3500 gasser since it's slightly shorter for better break over when 4wheeling. Curious how you made your choice of a Ford? Also, doesn't the fridge and...
