thanks! - i did make it easy to dock/undock for what you described. i bring it inside and set the areas i want to download maps for and also download my tracks to it the day before a trip. then the next morning, i just grab it and take it to the Jee, dock it, and off we go! also its setup to...

i love my midland 85-822, no problems with it. performs just as good as anyone elses that i know of with a properly tuned antenna. i don't know if it does instant weather alerts while on the CB, i can't find anything about it in the manual... there's a button to switch between weather stations...

tested out the tablet's interface with the steering wheel buttons a lot. seems to be solid, just need to clean up the code a bit

so most of my audio issues came down to the PAC line driver being a POS. it was picking up and amplifying most of the RFI noise even with plenty of shielding, and it was giving me a thump on turnoff. i replaced it with a JL Audio CL-RLC that has differential-balanced inputs which seemed to kill...

this was a fun trip even though it turned out to be a small group. the Old Dale area is a neat and often overlooked place to explore. like any BLM land, the availability to vehicle-based explorers is subject to change - and the state of the old mine ruins is of course in constant decay. anyway...
