So this may sound like a harsh post and I do NOT mean it to be that way. I mean it as a comment but one that I think bears making. I don't know the folks at the Appalachian Trail Institute, I have no axe to grind with them, but the death of AT hiker Gerry Largay, and follow up story is the...
Love this area and great capturing it's beauty. Though as you say pictures never fully do it justice. Everyone needs to see it to appreciate it.
WKexpedition I'm not sure about the Ouray sections he did but I did Hurricane and California passes in a stock Yukon with no problems. I think I did...
I am not familiar with them and don't think something that is that rare would be either easy to come by or easy to find parts for (last made in the early 80's right?).
What about getting a 100 or 125 and beefing up the suspension for weight. This is a "get home" bike so the trails would be ones...
really great....in your pic #5 of the 5:15 from yesterday "more shots" post.....I have seen independent suspension but that looks like independent steering too! Ha!
Love the open range shot too.
Can I ask a possibly stupid question....you said the water is standing and not a raging rapid. So the water help could be accomplished by an aluminum boat in the back of a pick up no? I'm just thinking a full size 4x4 and a jon boat with an outboard would accomplish most of what you need. Even...
Haha screwball....I know how you feel. I posted it to spread my pain! ;)
Good to know Tazman....thanks for commenting. I will post some comments when I get it.
I have a Maxpedition Versipack which has been a great addition for me for easy day hikes with the family. Its especially convenient in places where I don't want to open carry. I have had it for prob 8 to 10 years or so (I forget actually) and it is still like new. It takes a beating and still...
Gotcha- I've thought about that route too...buy one that has what I want for amenities, at rent hen it and mount it on a better box. The reason I liked the 36RT was it had a "real" bathroom w/blackwater tank. Definitely something my wife would prefer. ;)
I have a yukon (not XL) and it has been a great basic (albeit 100% stock) platform for camping. Like what you're doing. Looking forward to seeing your build.
Love to see info on the camper too. I have been debating a Starcraft 36RT for a long time. But not sure if the build is really strong...
I agree cruiser. Have no beef with technology and love to use it. But I don't want to be blind and deaf if it goes out!
Thanks on the army versions too guys. Simple still works!
Some how I missed this thread before. I think this was a pretty well thought out rig before and you have certainly added to it! Well done. I really like your approach. Thanks for sharing all the details you have put into the build. Hope you have a great trip! Love to hear the AAR when you return...
Never done that although look at it a lot of times on the DeLorme. Great write up!
Those thickets are amazing along the sides of roads. At times virtually impenetrable....a wall of small trees inches apart that you cant knock over.
One time to try to get past a thicket following a stream a...
Thanks everyone. I like magnetic declination prob just cause I am used to having it and setting it. But I totally get that as long as you adjust for it you can adapt. What I am hearing is the bells an whistles so to speak are not so great as the tried and true. Not for the price differentials...
So I have a question and no I'm not going to try suturing myself or anyone else. But I am curious as to when a bandage is more appropriate than super glue and vice versa. I get that super glue might prevent ongoing cleaning while a bandage would allow it. Just curious what the decision matrix...
Most ketchup, mustard and mayo does not need to be refrigerated due to the vinegar in it. The makers usually say to do so for "best results" but I think that has more to do with separation etc rather than spoilage. When I was a kid my mother made her own mayo with raw eggs and we kept it in the...
I'm always kind of curious about some of the things here too. Wouldn't covering a fridge with a blanket look just like a cooler? I totally get keeping the site clean etc. I've also wondered about the bear fencing. I've kind of felt like I do about locking doors...while it won't prevent someone...
