Petrol and gasses outside. Even if I have to put the 10 pound on the roof rack and the 5 gal petrol cans as well, (which I am told does influence the COG) it is better than in an enclosed space. I have fitted petrol cans in the lower part of the Rover where the spare used to go so that I always...
Went to a 4X club gathering several years in CO and one of the guys had a trailer delivered and set up waiting for him. The rental was less than I thought possible. He flew in from somewhere back east, had a trail vehicle delivered and waiting next to the trailer. Didn't have the time to drive...
I used Pyrex glass pot on a gas stove at home and it exploded and ended up in thousands of pieces. I wear glasses and glad I do so or the pieces would have gone in my eye. I will never use those glass pots again, don' trust 'em. Even if metal pot melts from the heat it is better than an explosion.
My LR has a light up high (legal requirement) but I have only added a rear swing out tire carrier for convenience for me that still allows both (all three) stop and tail lights to be visible from the rear. I did think about this issue when deciding what to put back of the vehicle.

Tex68w,
Thanks for your reply and explanation.
I cooked with cast iron for most of my camping adventures and then found non-stick. I have turned the corner and use it almost all the time now, even at home. Clean up for me is a paper towel and hot water.
I guess it would depend on what is being...
Made a dash cover for my 07 LR3 similar to the one sold by LR. Used a friends cover as pattern. Not difficult to make but I did not cover the instrument hump. Several layers of light weight fabric to mimic the carpet type thickness. My dash is not cracked yet, just a prevention move on my part...
Did not understand the idea of ' the lack of a non-stick surface will allow the use of a steel wool pad for easy clean up' The idea of a non stick surface means you don't NEED steel wool for clean up. that is what non stick means...nothing sticks.
went to REI and sat in the Helinox chair and immediately fell over when I put my arm out as if to grab a beer. Looks like a waste of a lot of money to me. Very unstable with the legs so close together.
I know there is a lot of concern about the weight of things. My last vehicle was a 1973 Pinzgauer 710M that had about 80 HP. It weighed close to the heft of a LR3 that has about 300 HP. I find the increase HP a real boon to travel and adding a bit of weight here and there doesn't seem to slow me...
I went to OX several years ago and am going again this year, coming from Denver it is a two day trip for me.
I don't like to ride for more than 6 hours at a time and with the sunset early night driving is out of the question. Moab area is just about the 1/2 way point for me so I will be...
I have the TR bumper with swing away for the spare. I always carry it, never know what city streets will do. Just today had a large screw in the LF tire and it was losing air. Had the shop put on the spare and left them the LF with screw to fix. They fixed it and I returned later and put it in...
It is very interesting that you actually tried several options and probably heating the bed and using some sort of lofting bedding would be the least dangerous and most efficient. Thanks for your efforts. When I last slept in a RTT in Idaho I found ice hanging from the roof inside in the AM...
I keep mine in the FR drawers so they are not exposed to the elements, water is not an issue then. ...also they are opaque and I can't see what is in there without opening them. I would have not put them on the RR for the reason that they are not water tight.
I did get a roof top bag but find...
CSG, thanks for pointing that out.
Pouring hot water over a filter filled with coffee is the way my home coffee maker works. Stands to reason it would work in the 'wild'.
I have been using a French press for awhile now and it is just fine that way. Colombian coffee from Costco, same as home.
I am also running a panavise bracket with the ram x mount for my phone. Got the idea from ColoDisco. Really comes in handy for holding the phone and can then be used to talk hands free.
Thought about getting a larger x mount for the iPad mini. Not yet.
