Propane tank... anyone added a permanently mounted tank underneath? General Questions

That's good info thanks! McMaster specifies certain QD fittings as LPG/Natural gas certified... good enough for me. Something about an internal valve as a fail safe in the event of a hose separation preventing a fire from spreading.

Propane tank... anyone added a permanently mounted tank underneath? General Questions

Russ, thanks for the link. I will give it a go. I am not trying to be cheap, just not scammed into a high price for a fitting that does the same thing. If someone can show me how a propane quick disconnect differs from a pneumatic quick disconnect and has "this and that" that provide a safety...

Propane tank... anyone added a permanently mounted tank underneath? General Questions

I picked up a VW bus propane tank... about 10 lbs or so. I know the regulator is leaky per the original owner so I am looking at what options I need to replace the leaky one. Here are a few questions I have after poking around for a bit on the interwebs: I need to replace my regulator, is...

    Are Alu-Box bear proof ?

If you are camping at established campgrounds in bear country most have lockers on sight for your food storage. I would not count on an aluminum product to repel forced entry of a grizzly... or black bear for that matter. It is still a sound piece of kit for your adventure, this scenario puts...

    Pakmule Cargo Carrier

Looks nice, aluminum is a nice choice for that application and I have used one to haul firewood before too. We get to camp and bring the whole loaded rack near the fire pit and unload as needed. I pulled mine out of the dumpster, welded up a few broken welds (it was a cheap HF import I am sure)...

Frontrunner 45L water tank or water bag

I have a 10L MSR Dromedary and don't get any plastic taste and I am pretty picky about my water. It is perfect for an overnight... I have 4 different sizes and they have all run 100% without any issues. That said I am dropping in a 20 gallon tank to satisfy the family of 5 camping needs.

Thanks for the great input so far. I appreciate it!

Building a weatherproof drawer out of aluminum tubing, connectors, and panels?

If you are riveting the box together then there's no need to weld up the seams... I would add something like a caulk/silicone (Sika-flex) comes to mind and seal it up that way. No need to pay a welder. You could also have the aluminum supplier bend the top down over the sides for you eliminating...

Fridge high or low... on the drawers or at floor level. Input needed

I am in the final stages of designing my sleeping platform/storage area in my 100 series Land Cruiser. My initial thought is to have a shelf that is high enough to have 2 Pelican 1650's underneath with a 20 gallon water tank along the back edge of the seats. I'll make the platform level to the...

If you build it, they will come

Wow what a cool starting platform. You should be fine adding a large array of solar on that flat roof. What kind of room is underneath the chassis to fit water/extended range fuel tanks? As for insulated walls, something like Nida-core might be a good starting place. It is light, strong and...

12v Deep cycle battery chassis mount

^^^^^This. Get a good steel battery box from one of many manufacturers and cut and paste new metal on as necessary. The AGM (Optima/Deka/etc) can be mounted in any position, just make sure your positive feeds are well covered and you can pop one in nearly anywhere.

    Road shower water heating

I have a Road Shower 2. Adding a little boiling water is pretty easy. Just bring a big squatty funnel and you're good to go. My wife likes a scalding hot shower, this really helps bump the heat up, she has a lot of hair and to wash it with HOT water is a big plus for her, she isn't as cool...

    Water System: Faucet vs. Sprayers

I have this same faucet, it rocks... I used it with Shurflo's 100 series pump. It's a perfect combo. I have both on my rig, a Road Shower 2 with sprayer and a faucet. If I had to chose one, it'd be the faucet, it is so convenient to use, if my wife made the call... it's hot showers 100%. Both...

    Liquid stove storage/transport

Yeah, toss a rag or hand towel in between the parts (to eliminate rattles mostly) and then use the towel around camp. I get the retired ones from my wife and they become the best camp towels... if they get to gunky, they get burned.

Front Runner Spare tire mount fire grill grate... Yeah or Nay?

Not interested in the snow peak stuff, I love what I have, however, I just want the ability to cook a steak over the fire. That said, after the first few posts I realized that a Weber round grill grate is only $20 and tossing it into the Trash-a-roo is easy peasy. That might be how I roll until...

    Goose - Our Poptop FZJ80

This is a rad thread. Thanks for taking the time to post up. I would vote for a piano hinge too, maybe some of the rear door hinges from the tear drop trailer market would make a good candidate?

Front Runner Spare tire mount fire grill grate... Yeah or Nay?

So our camping is taking us more and more remote than ever before and we desire to be surrounded by solitude and leave the crowds behind. That said, we are noticing that we have lost the ability to cook over the fire grates that are found at more established campgrounds. My curiosity has...
