Check the clearance between the existing tire & the knuckle - my guess is that it's pretty tight. That's going to be the limiting factor with tire width on the OEM wheels.
I have 265's on my '08, & the sidewall is about 1/2" from the knuckle.
As birdmann mentioned - higher offset wheels or...
If you're planning on watching the fireworks show in Silverton - stake out your spot early & expect to be surrounded.
I'm not big on the shows - but happened to be passing through late in the day a few years ago, so we stayed for it.
Despite the crowd - it was quite impressive. We were...
I've turned enough wood into sawdust to know that wood is, in fact, heavy. Adding fiberglass and epoxy doesn't make it any lighter.
But I'm certain that Paul has his reasons for using it - and since he's building it, his reasons are the only ones that matter. I'll leave the howling to others...
I don't like hard and fast rules for how much you should carry. Too many variables in play to find a realistic and reasonable one-size-fits-all number.
Take what you can comfortably carry & be prepared to fill up along the way as needed. Play it safe on your first couple trips until you get a...
Wow - that's a [physically] big stinkin' camper for only weighting 2600 pounds. Well done!
Did I read somewhere that you were bringing that down to Flagstaff in May? I'd love to take a peek at it!
The OP deleted that thread (along with the others that he/she started).
That users account is still active, & they continue to visit the forum (most recently - about 2 hours ago).
I agree with the DIY = Ryobi crowd.
I probably wouldn't go that route if I had to earn a living with them - but for tools that only get used around the house for the random project every week or three, it's hard to beat them.
I had a single 100w CIGS flexible panel glued to the roof of my camper.
I ran a ARB 50 fridge continuously, a couple LED lights intermittently at night, and charged a couple I-phones & camera batteries at night.
With a single 100ah house battery, I never ran out of power. Once I hooked up the...
I don't know if I'd do this if I were living out of a vehicle long term, but for short (2 week +/-) trips, why not pull the fridge out & set it on the ground at night? Just make a power cord that is long enough to reach where it needs to, & make sure that it is routed so it doesn't get crushed...
I used adhesive backed bulb seals from McMaster Carr.
They worked OK (certainly better than nothing), but there was always a bit of water and dust that worked its way through.
I've had an REI Flexlite chair for a year or so - not exactly something that will get passed down through the generations, but it's relatively comfortable, doesn't weigh much, and packs down about as small as I've seen any actual "chair". It's small & light enough that I take it backpacking...
I used to run in the same circle as Jack back in the early 2000's when I lived out in the Los Angeles area. He built 4wdtrips because the group ended up with so many e-mails going back and forth that it was hard to keep up with everything. We still get together (along with a bunch of the other...
That's pretty much what we did when we had a FWC.
We were fair-weather campers though. If it was going to be cold/windy/rainy/otherwise crappy for more than a day - we'd go somewhere else.
The world is too big to camp in crappy weather!
I'm a few miles west of the city limits - on the western flank of the Tucson mountains.
I used to spend new years on the deserted beaches between Kino & San Carlos, the usual haunts in Baja, etc.
The camper was an older (but overhauled) FWC Grandby. I'm flying solo again, so I downsized to a...
