    Colorado FWC Ute Flatbed Build

You pick up some additional floor space that would normally be lost to the wheel wells (which greatly enhances traffic flow inside the camper), but IMO, equally as important is that with no bed sides, you can move the door to the side of the camper. This, in turn, allows you to put the dinette...

    Kira Van at Sema

When I first read about this vehicle, all that was presented was "I built it to take my daughter on a trip around the world" - at which time I (and many others) was thinking, "****** are you thinking?!?!?". That bit of info (quote above) changes everything. From the perspective of showing design...

    Spoon or Spork???

I pack what ever (fork, knife, &/or spoon) is appropriate for the food I'm carrying that day(s). Sporks need not apply.

Those that don't like to climb down to pee

Oh yea - I know all about that frosty beverage thing. I still pee before going to bed, then sleep peacefully through the night (well, what's left of the night . . .) :friday: Depends on what you consider to be "old". Is 53 old? I may not be a good reference point though, I have a large...

Poll- Do you actually sleep inside?

That's pretty much why I ended up with a FWC. Flying solo + dog was easy in a TJ. Add another [human] body to the mix, & things got a bit more complicated. I did that for a while too. Major help - but still ended up with a camper.

    Good source metric bolts

Only use anti-seize if it's recommended by the OEM. Anything that reduces friction between the threads will also reduce the torque required to reach a certain clamping force between the parts. You increase your risk of warping flanges & stripping threads if you're not careful.

    Tire warranty coverage?

That's definitely not the "Discount Tire Co." road hazard warranty we're used to seeing. Out west (well, CA, AZ, & CO - where I have dealt with them) they cover the tire regardless of how or where the damage occurred. On road, off road, vandalism, collision . . . any non-repairable damage gets...

    Tire warranty coverage?

There are two different "Discount Tire" businesses: "Discount Tire Company" (which does not prorate) and "Discount Tire Center" (which does prorate). In Southern California, "Discount Tire Company" (the one you have in PHX) operates under the "America's Tire Company" name. I'm guessing that...

Am i reading this correctly? 2016 taco still has rear drum brakes...

I read a while back (last year????) that with the recession, the average new vehicle ownership period had stretched out to somewhere between 7 and 8 years. Granted, that's a really generalized number - and it's been quite a while since I read it, so it may not be as accurate today. While that...

    Most common things to break

More importantly - when is the last time you needed to? Modern vehicles are so much more reliable than they were 30 years ago. Anyone who wants to go back to filing & setting the gap on a set of points every year is welcome to it - I'll take a modern ignition system over that antiquated junk...

Need advice from truck camper gurus.....

For full timing, I'd definitely lean towards a full size with a hawk or grandby on a 3/4 or 1 ton. The flat bed campers are, IMO, the best thing going right now. The usable space is huge compared to the slide in campers. Again, for full timing, I'd be leaning towards a diesel. It's going to...

Can i use this for my duel batt set up?

If you're feeding a house panel, 80 amps may or may not be appropriate. It all depends on the panel and wiring you use. Honestly, since it's already paid for, I wouldn't toss it, but I also wouldn't plan my project around it. If it happens to work - great! If it doesn't, then just get the...

Poll- Do you actually sleep inside?

If I'm moving daily, I like sleeping inside. I did it in my TJ (passenger seat removed), & I did it in numerous trucks (fiberglass camper shells). Drip proof boxes with reasonable latches (IE: action packers) keep gear & food dry & safe from small critters (bears obviously require more...

    $wheel Camper access steps?

I did that too. The biggest problem is that the dog doesn't know how to use it, & now that he's nearly full grown, he's getting heavy!

need input on drawer system requests for JK

Very few low volume products will ever be cheaper than doing it yourself, assuming you use the same materials. DIY simply doesn't have the overhead to absorb, or the labor to pay. Those two issues certainly are a challenge. It takes a lot of time to build the first piece (and if your product...

    Baltic Birch 5X5 Panels

Try your local woodworking supply store. Woodworkers Source is where I go in AZ, but Woodcraft, Rockler, etc. have a broader reach. The Baltic Birch is superior to the common construction grade material you get at the home improvement stores - but it does come at a premium.

    Garmin GPS + riding gear

Yes - its still available. The battery appears to be pretty much toast (it's not taking a charge), but it runs fine on external power. Replacement batteries are less than $25 on Amazon, so I'll drop the price to $275+ shipping to cover the cost of the replacement battery.
