Solving the Digital Photographer's Archiving Dilemma? (Digital Asset Management)

I never found the love for Aperture. Lightroom was always a fair bit easier to use as far as process flow goes. Maybe it's just that I learned on Lightroom 1.0 (back in my PC days) & didn't get into Aperture until much later (3.x????) when I bought my first Mac (which is still running strong 8...

    Overland Expo West 2015

I believe last year was somewhere north of 7,000 for the west show (take that with a grain of salt - I don't think I ever heard the final number, but I remember hearing that it was expected to be in that range). That includes the day-pass folks - I'm not sure how many of those stayed in the...

Bad Experience with OR-Fab Products and Customer Service

Don't get me wrong - my post was directed towards the previous comments about the availability of individual pieces of something that is typically sold as a kit (or assembly, in this case). The issues with quality & service that the OP has had are very different (and unfortunate). I would...

Bad Experience with OR-Fab Products and Customer Service

If you don't fabricate in-house, this is the way it's done -- and to be honest, it's really the only way to keep costs reasonable. Laser cutting and forming is *really* expensive, particularly if you order small numbers.

    Futon in truck bed

Back before I bought a camper, we were faced with a similar scenario, but add in a couple of 50 - 75 pound dogs. We ended up with a storage shelf rather than a platform. It was about 24" side & spanned the width of the bed, at the front (cab) end. When traveling, everything went in boxes...

    12 V vacuum recommendations?

Check with Jonathan Hanson (if you can't find him here - you can contact him through the Overland Expo website). I seem to recall reading something from him a few years ago about a 12v vacuum that he's been really happy with (and he's a dedicated gear geek). I don't remember if it was in the...

Custom Camper Build - f-350 vs 450/3500 vs 4500, GVRW, Gas

I know the OP said he wasn't looking to get into another older truck - but for those who are thinking "older is better": You're going to have a tough time finding full coverage insurance for Mexico on anything older than 15 years.

FS: Canon EOS 5D MkII, 24-105L with extras, excellent condition

Depends on how "smoking" the "smoking deal" is. I'm interested - but have the lions share of my free cash tied up as a contingency fund for another project I'm working on.

    I don't move mine.

    Overland Bike Rack Options?

I have an 8' long four-wheel camper on a short bed truck - so my options are pretty limited. I ended up with a hitch rack mounted on the front of the truck. It does create a visibility issue, which was simple enough to fix - I mount one bike "backwards" so they are both pointed to the...

Where did you mount a compressor on a full size domestic truck?

Exposure would be my biggest concern. I don't imagine that it would be that difficult to plumb the air intake up into the engine compartment to keep the filter clean (just be sure to use over sized piping/tubing). If the compressor itself is well sealed - and I imagine that it is - then I'd be...

How much does a paint job cost where you live?

It all depends on how much time they are going to spend on prep work, & what color you are painting it. Red & blue paints are expensive relative to say, white. Prep work is the killer though. If you're looking for a quick "wet sand and spray" kind of deal, shouldn't be a problem to get it...

Realistically...how often do you use your hi-lift?

I used mine a few times when I had a TJ simply because it was convenient. A traditional jack would have worked in pretty much any situation that I used it. I sold it when I sold the Jeep, & haven't really desired to have or use one on the truck.

    1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4

No worries. We get a lot of reported posts in the for-sale section for lacking the info. Getting all the info here keeps it organized, and gives access to a wider audience (not everyone can get to craigslist from work). Good luck with the sale!

    Flatbed with slides??

The challenge with the typical truck camper is that you have very limited floor space. Campers that sit on flat beds gain a ton of usable space by removing that 50" width limitation created by the wheel wells. By the time you get cabinets on one side & a seating area of some sort on the other...

CONFESSIONS FROM A GUY BEHIND A DESK

Everyone does it in one way or another. Some people surf the net, some people clean their toolbox, some people plan out their next fishing trip. Nobody works at 100%, 100% of the time. Any manager, director, or executive that actually believes that he/she will get 8 hours worth of "work" out...

paying for used vehicle from an individual?

When I buy vehicles from private parties, I use a check from my credit union. I apply for a used car loan (even if I have cash but don't want to carry it). When it's approved, they send me a check with a "not to exceed" amount printed on it, and a place for me to write in the actual cost. Along...

Help with a teh starting point.

I used 2 x 4 x .120 square tube for the frame of my motorcycle trailer. It was plenty - possibly even overkill. It adds up pretty quick, so you'll want to watch the weight if you're pulling it with a 'zuk. For reference, that 2x4x.120 steel weighs about 4.69 pounds per linear foot.
