    Overland Expo 2013

It'll be in the same venue as 2012, and at approximately the same time of year (spring). I don't have any details, but I do know that Jonathan & Roseann will be dishing up the first details very soon.

    Camper shell conundrum....

Your local sign shop can put a piece of clear vinyl on the back of the cab to take care of that issue. It's much cheaper to replace that every 10 years or so, than to repaint the cab.

    Anderson connectors for camper electrical?

It's what I use - and I haven't had any problems with it.

    Motorcycle advice

Honda makes a lot of good bikes. The 250cc rebel is not one of them. Some of the 250cc dirt bikes will f'in scream - the 250cc street bikes (IE rebel) have trouble getting out of their own way. With a budget of $1k - $2k, you would be better served by looking for a used bike. Go with what...

Cost to paint a camper shell?

It cost me about $70 worth of materials, and a few evenings worth of time to do mine. Even if you don't want to do the actual painting yourself, you can save a fair amount of $$$ by doing all but the final prep (any decent paint shop will insist on doing the final cleaning & prep themselves)...

    Camper shell conundrum....

All I can say is "good luck"! Well, that and I'd really like to see what you come up with. There are several systems out there that can make it easy to remove/install a shell - and if you incorporate a contractor rack you'll have a simple solution to the 20' stick of steel problem. The...

Chrysler on boad with 54.5 MPG CAFE requirement for 2025. Fingers crossed

And that's the great debate that everything (not just the CAFE standard) centers on, isn't it? Where should the government draw the line? At what point does the government say "enough is enough"? It's well known that many (not all) powerful companies have manipulated the market in an effort...

Chrysler on boad with 54.5 MPG CAFE requirement for 2025. Fingers crossed

The problem is, automakers don't build what a consumer wants - they build what is profitable.

Chrysler on boad with 54.5 MPG CAFE requirement for 2025. Fingers crossed

There is a reason that the second letter of that acronym is "A" and the third letter is "F". Average Fleet Not every vehicle needs to meet that standard - just the average of all the vehicles. But I bet you already understand that. If you (anyone) look at it from a different perspective...

    A Few Pics from Baja

We've noticed that the guys at the military checkpoints are becoming proficient with english far faster than I am becoming proficient with spanish. That's probably not a good thing . . .

    12V Fridges on non-dual battery non-expedition vehicles

I know a couple people that use their fridge without a dual battery set up. Overnight use shouldn't be a problem - just don't open it much after you shut the vehicle off for the night (as mentioned above). You may also consider one of the portable 'jump start packs' as a back up incase the...

Can I flip over my trailer axle?

One other thing to note with cambered trailer axles - you want to be sure that the bend is pointing up (most new axles are labeled something to the effect of "this side up"). If you don't get the orientation right, the toe in (or out - depending on the orientation) will be off. So - if you're...

Can I flip over my trailer axle?

Are you pulling it off of your bumper, or a receiver mounted under the bumper? If it's a receiver, the simple solution is to buy a drop-hitch & run it upside down (that's what I do). Any decent trailer shop will be able to get you the hitch within an inch or two of your target. If the trailer...

    Why I don't like BMW's.

That was the annual GS ride that they put on. They usually have B & C routes. I was planning on going, but it was friggin cold, so I wussed out & stayed home. I didn't move to Tucson to freeze my butt off. A couple of us tried to ride the B route (from the March ride) yesterday - but ran...

    Why I don't like BMW's.

Half of the GS riders have smaller/faster bikes at home - some of them are even orange.

    Why I don't like BMW's.

Well, if you're comparing them to, say, something from Zengcheng Benma Industrial -- then yea, KTM is far superior. :sombrero:

    Why I don't like BMW's.

Hardly [SIC] guys are the most non-waving in my experience (I ride a BMW). Sometimes I wave, sometimes I don't - but it doesn't depend on what the other guy is riding. Sometimes there are just too many bikes on the road to wave at them all, sometimes I'm just too busy trying not to get run...

    duel sport bikes

Compared to the HD, the BMW G650 may be light - but compared to most dual sport motorcycles, it is anything but. You'll be around 500 once you get a weeks worth of gear on it. They're smooth (for a thumper), comfortable, efficient & reliable - but they're heavy SOBs when you have to pick them...

Adventure Riding Solo: Do You Do It?

I have a Bring-A-Long too - but it's quite a bit bulkier & while useful, it doesn't have as much bang for the buck as the little block and tackle - IMO anyway. The one thing that the bring-a-long does that the block and tackle doesn't, is keep tension on the line when you let go. Neither one...

Adventure Riding Solo: Do You Do It?

I carry one of these. It isn't cheap - but it doesn't take up much room, is well built, and comes in really handy when you need it. I don't think I've ever used it to pick up the bike other than to test it out when I got it (haven't had the need), but I've used it around camp & home a few times.
