    2013 BMW F700GS and F800GS specs released

F650GS is pretty heavy to hang off the back of your truck (assuming you are using a hitch carrier). It can be done (been there, done that), but it's a job to muscle one up and down by yourself. For street/highway use & mild to moderate terrain at speeds appropriate for a big bike - the F650GS...

    2013 BMW F700GS and F800GS specs released

Honda certainly has reliability down, but so does BMW - particularly with the older bikes like the F650GS singles. The older F650GSs (the singles) are great "traveling" bikes. They are a little small for extended freeway use, and a little big for moderately technical terrain (big rocks, sand...

    2013 BMW F700GS and F800GS specs released

^^^I'll second pretty much all of that.^^^ I don't have a huge problem with the factory seat - but I do wish I would have gone with the standard seat instead of the low seat. The low seat is pretty wide, so you are standing a bit bow-legged over the bike, which makes it feel taller than it...

    LED LIGHTS

How did you obtain these lights? Based on your posts here, it appears that you are either acting as an agent of the importer, or you are selling these for profit - in which case you need Brian McVickers about the sponsor program.

Suggestion for tubeless set up for a rookie

I had patches & a pump . . . but not enough to overcome what the cactus did to the rear tire. The short days have me riding as soon as I get home from work, then working on stuff around the house afterwards (when it's dark & I can't ride anyway). Oh well - at least my girlfriend came out to...

Suggestion for tubeless set up for a rookie

Oh the irony . . . Lets just say that it took longer to push my bike out of the desert last night (with an unrepairable flat, no more patches, and no spare tube), than it did to install the Stan's tubeless kit once I got home. :smilies27

Suggestion for tubeless set up for a rookie

About the time you started this thread, I was at the LBS inquiring the same thing. All of the employees there use Stan's on their own bikes, and tell me that most of the new bikes that they sell get fitted with the (Stan's) conversion before they go out the door at the request of the buyer...

Tech ?. Warn 9.5xp not spooling in or out...just clicking from the solenoid

One solid loud click when you hit the button would seem to indicate that the control side of the system is working (solenoid is pulling in as it should), so the problem is on the load side. Based strictly on my past experience with Warn winches (all older models), the problem is probably the...

    Best Metal Sealant? Adhesive?

If you're goal is to keep moisture out of the joints, putty tape is your friend. Any decent RV supply will have it. Cool it off in you're refrigerator before you use it -- it isn't nearly as sticky then, and makes it much nicer to work with. When it warms up (room temperature) it's sticky and...

    Outdoor trailer storage

A trailer that was build to hold up to back country/camping use should have absolutely no problem with sitting outside in the sun/rain/wind/snow for a season. Mine sits outside year round in southern AZ. If you really want to cover it (and it's obviously up to you), inexpensive tarps are the...

All Underwear is Not Created Equal!

Lynn - I just returned from working in some coffee fields in Costa Rica. It's still the rainy season down there - the temps were nice, but the humidity kept us sweating all day long. I was washing clothes every night (in the bathroom sink) because it took 2 days for anything to dry (hanging in...

Can a compass be fixed? It points south...

Are you reading it from the top down - or from the side? That style of compass should be read from the side - so if you have it on the dash and you read "N" - then you are headed north (even though the letter "N" is actually pointed south).

    Roof Top Tents?

It really does depend on what you're doing. If you're moving every day & don't want to spend a lot of time setting up ground tents every day - they're a great option. The Easi-awn I had did really well in the wind, was pretty warm (as far as tents go), no problems with rain, no problems...

What are you guys using for boots?

I typically wear an older pair of Sidi Discovery II's. If the trip is limited to pavement or graded dirt roads & also includes more than just casual walking around while taking breaks, I'll wear my hiking boots (which cover the ankle).

Is simple better? Advice on Phoenix pop up wanted...

I did what amounts to a frame-up rebuild of a FWC Granby last year. This is the first camper I've had in nearly 20 years - the interim was filled with various ground tents, a RTT, a couple camper shells, sleeping platforms, etc. I ended up keeping the camper pretty simple, but did include...

Wife thinks I should build more of these?

The quickest way to ruin a good hobby is to turn it into a business. Don't over think it this early in the game. Its easy to turn a profit when you don't have "real" overhead (building rent, electricity, phone lines, office equipment, insurance, inventory carrying costs, tax, etc), so if you...

    Motorcycle advice

It all depends on where you are going to ride it & how well you fit the bike (ergonomically). If any significant freeway miles are involved - a 250 is going to leave you fixated on your rear view mirror & wondering when exactly you are going to be run over. Even my 650GS had trouble keeping up...
