Pro Traveler Tip...clothes washing..what do you do?

It all depends on where we're going, how we're getting there, & what we're doing once we get there. On motorcycles or on foot, I have one set of clothes on, one ready to go on, and an extra pair of sox/underwear. We hit a hotel ever day or three, and wash dirty clothes & riding gear in the...

2002 BMW Dakar F650GS with a lefty sidecar homebuild

I can't see the photo's either - but that's not uncommon when using this connection. The side stand switch isn't a simple warning light - it will shut the engine down. My vote would be to bypass it. For heim joints, Wheelers used to sell them (they're local-ish to you), or Poly Performance...

12v Cummins vs. 7.3 Power Stroke?

Probably anyone who is given the choice between sitting on paper & sitting in the back seat of my Dodge . . .

12v Cummins vs. 7.3 Power Stroke?

I've always liked the Dodges (and not really cared for the Fords), but the back seat in the 2nd gen Dodge shouldn't be considered a seat, more of a padded storage platform.

    Camper jacks

When I was a kid, our camper took a fall when a gust of wind came through. It as already sketchy (windy, uneven ground), but a big gust knocked it over when it was a couple feet up. One jack punched a hole in the siding (didn't get through the interior wall though), bent the legs on one of the...

    Camper jacks

I do it all the time - nothing to it. I lift the front end first (6" on first corner, 12" on the second, 12" on the first, etc until it's about 24" off the ground), then lift the back about the same (try not to get the back much higher than the front due to the extra weight of the cab-over)...

    Used 4Wheel Campers: Mounting?

Typically, there are 4 eye bolts on the camper (1 per corner), 1 eye bolts in each corner of the bed, with either a turnbuckle or a ratchet strap at each corner. Be sure that you use either cast eye bolts, or weld the loop shut if you use the "wrapped wire" (more common) version. Some people...

    FS: Custom Valved Fox Shocks

Actually - I see a solid argument for saying shock valving is proprietary. If I'm a shock supplier & I go through the process of working up what I feel is the optimum shock valving for vehicle XXXX, with the intent of re-selling those shocks, then there is no way I'm going to share the...

Will you buy an extra large phone?

Probably not. The extra inch of screen doesn't provide enough benefits over a 5" screen to justify putting up with the larger overall size. At least for me & how I use my phone.

    RTT....its days may numbered

We tried it for a while too. It was comfortable - but way to far off the ground to be convenient, and still lacked standing room. We ended up selling the RTT + the jeep it was mounted to in favor of a truck + FWC. It's a better match for the type of traveling & camping we do. Big bonus was...

'99 Ram w/FWC 285/55 BFG KM2 Less than 20K - replaced with ~25% tread remaining due to multiple tread separations (2 of 4 tires). 90% pavement, 10% mild/moderate dirt road

    iPhone 5S and 5C announcements

Marisa moved to ios 7 & feels the same. It kind of reminds me of when AOL came out - everything was a little cartoon-ish. I'm thinking I'll just stick with what I have until it doesn't work anymore.

The ExPo: BMW F650 GS Dakar Project Bike

BMW made a single seat (with a storage compartment built into the pillion area) that I found to be far more comfortable that the original seat. As a bonus, I was able to fit my basic tool kit along with spare tubes in it, eliminating the need to carry any extra luggage for day to day use.

The ExPo: BMW F650 GS Dakar Project Bike

While I won't argue with most of what you wrote, I would hesitate to bill this as "light and fast" - it is neither. What it is, is an incredibly comfortable traveling bike, if your "travel" revolves around mild to moderate terrain, and speeds greater than ~10mph & less than ~80mph. Get much...
