There are some internal frames that are spot welded in place from what I've seen vs the noncompartmentalized version but that probably doesnt really matter.
I don't have the floor compartments in mine. Mitsu had some odd optioning going on around this time. Removing the compartments involves drilling/grinding but it's pretty feasible.
Still deciding if I want an actual drawer or if I'll just leave it as a platform and keep using plastic containers...
Your best bet is probably an AWD astro/safari. It will likely get you where you need to go stock but it's fairly easy to add a t-case and a bit beefier tire.
They're pretty cheap.
I don't want to take the wind out of your sails but while it can be done I don't think it should be. That's too much weight leveraging the rear of the vehicle. This is what trailers are for.
Well since I'm keeping the truck I've decided to give it some additional love. Everything is still working great after the timing belt several thousand miles later so I figure it will last.
First new thing: get a decent drawer or storage platform built for the rear. Using Baltic Birch and semi...
Is this the rack you got and simply didn't bolt the upper on? I have the raised side rails and it looks like I could just mount this directly to them and skip my round yakima bars...
Any thoughts on these 3 RTTs? Thinking about trailer mounting one, the two person seems plenty larger for my wife and I and I prefer as compact and light as possible. I was able to check out the Yakima in person and it seems pretty well built and breathable.
You're not missing anything.....I use some "$10 drawers" that slide all on their own and are light weight. Bet if I put snowpeak on them I could fetch a pretty penny.....
Bingo. Plastic is the way to go. I find it hilarious people use 500lb slides that cost a bajillion dollars and take up too much room just to carry 100lbs of stuff at most.
I would also avoid the K&N. They let more dirt through than paper and it's easy to mess up the cleaning of them.
Just stick with a high quality or oem paper filter. Leave the engine stock and it will provide plenty of happy miles.
I know the mod bug is hard to suppress but you're better off...
I doubt it made a numeric difference on your xterra except make it louder and placebo took hold. Not worth the time effort cost or potential to mess stuff up. Just leave it alone.
