They are full of it...the difference between a coleman wally world special and a high quality tent from a dedicated outdoor company is huge.

As the op pointed out. Bolting into the stock mounts will be more ridged and negate the need.

It needs to be bolted down or you run the risk of 1 it rattling all the time or 2 it becoming a projectile in case of an accident. Plus this will be heavy enough you aren't going to want to take it in and out. Time for a small trailer for hauling home depot runs!
