PHASE II - Removing the rear seats
I'll post a full write-up on the project when I get some time, but here's a follow-up to this thread. I finally finished the last touches on the deck this weekend (well, still waiting on the hinges and cam locks to arrive from McMaster-Carr for the cubbies)...
A lot More info needed to know what “best” means.
If I had a trailer Jeep for rock crawling I’d probably think some sort of beadlock was “best”. For an overlander running a mild lift and slightly bigger tires I’d probably run a steel wheel in a dimension that suited my wheel/tire combo. For a...
Price drop $450 to $400. I'm in Sorrento Valley/Kearny Mesa area today and tomorrow and will have them with me if there is someone in San Diego area that is interested.
Excellent point. I used to “overland” in a ‘72 Beetle with the rear seat removed, a 1/2” plywood deck and a backpack thrown back there with a box of spare parts, a jerry can of gas and a jug of water. Got me all over Baja in the 80’s.
Thanks guys. Keep the suggestions coming. I’ve looked at the Alu-cab and other similar “free standing” units and I think the weight and bulk are too much.
I’m torn between going lightweight, knowing it won’t last as long versus heavy duty knowing it will last but it’s making my weight problems...
I assume you're talking about the Gazelle T3 and T4 "hub tents"? They look cool for fair weather, but I have a hard time trusting tents with tiny top-hat rain flies - I've seen too many single-wall tents with skimpy rain flies fail DRAMATICALLY in foul weather. I'd be curious how one of these...
Best commercial of the Super Bowl. And I don’t watch the game; I just watch all the commercials afterwards. Seriously great. 2nd best was Bud’s “typical American” IMO.

The layout is a bit confusing - is there a fridge slide? Or is it that little square area behind the camp stove (that would not hold a "real" fridge like an ARB or Dometic 50). Also it looks like that little thermoelectric cooler is stored inside the cabinet behind the sink?
more details...
Asking $450 $400 for the entire lot. No shipping (too heavy!), but I go back and forth between San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Monterey frequently so could meet somewhere in between.
Would prefer to sell as a set, but if you just want one of the items, let me know
Rock Krawler Front Adjustable...
I was very excited about the new ranger and followed its release closely. I’d seen them for years in Asia and was really looking forward to the possibility of a turbo diesel or 3.5 eco boost “baby Raptor”. Then I test drove an FX4 (the first one to hit my local dealer). I test drove the Chevy...
Careful calling that a "12v fridge" - it looks like a thermoelectic "cooler" which is a very different animal... Also, having the total weight (without the "fridge") or water would probably be helpful.
Great write-up! Thanks for sharing the adventure. Are the cabins in Az as full of rodents as the ones in Death Valley/Mojave? I don't think I'd ever want to spend the night in any of them for fear of hantavirus!
I had a ‘15 Ford F-150 with the 3.5 eco boost motor. The ONLY thing I liked about that truck was the motor. Man I’d love that motor in my Jeep.
Crazy power and torque down low but 23 mpg going 75 down the highway fully loaded down with gear and would tow 11,000 lbs.

Correct. Just for running the controller, fan, & spark. I've run it for 6+ hours from a computer UPS with less capacity, so I think this will be great for the purpose.
Thanks guys. Long term I do believe I will build a small portable LiFePO based system around 100ah. For now as a "quick & dirty" solution I picked up a Suaoki G500 (it was $100 off and at $389 its not a terribly painful purchase). Once I build the LiFePo system, this one will do duty around...
Thanks for the feedback on your first hand experience. It seems like your perspective and requirements are very similar to mine.
Good to hear that the 400 has not gone into auto shutoff mode. For $389 I might take a chance on that 500 version.
