Actually, the KJ was turbo diesel, registered in the great state of Utah, was purpose-built for overland travel, and did pretty much every trail in MOAB which gave it more cred than most Jeeps... especially those with Dodge Caravan motors. Even won "best expedition vehicle" at the prestigious...
I mounted mine with ARB brackets I got from Cruiser Outfitters when I bought the awning; extremely beefy. Sometimes, the right outfitter is much better than a promo code... just sayin'
Search for my post on this issue; I have a 3rd Gen though. I got two of the ARB brackets and some stainless hardware that fit into the slidey crossbars. I kept the factory thumb screws on the other side so it's very easy to remove. I have no idea what a 2016 rack looks like so it may be irrelevant.

The advantage to the Toyota dealer doing it is you get the dealer sticker under the hood with the date and mileage the work was done, and it's Toyota parts which seem to last so much longer than autoparts store stuff (especially water pumps). If you decide to sell the truck, it's peace of mind...
I once paid $26k for a vehicle and it made me sick to my stomach to do so. I paid $1,800 for the 3rd Gen 4 Runner I've been driving for 4 1/2 years. If you must finance a car, It should be no more than you can afford to pay off within 3 years.
