Weight control, for the people, and the camper. Half ton F150 overlander build.

What model and brand cap is it? If it's that light I'm interested for my next one. I had propane and battery at 100# together so matches your weights. If you travel in the desert or where water isn't potable than yeah you are stuck hauling it around. Fridge vs cooler with ice is a wash, take...

Weight control, for the people, and the camper. Half ton F150 overlander build.

You have 230# of water. The cap is going to be at least 200#. Another 100# for the propane tank and battery. I haven't gone through the list with a fine tooth comb but it struck me as adding up well over 1000#. Not including the weight of the tires.

Weight control, for the people, and the camper. Half ton F150 overlander build.

What trim and model etc of F150 do you have? This build strikes me as very heavy.

The full sized mid-size, my 2014 F150 "Fiddy"

The trucks excuse is large tires and towing a trailer. The van I guess just being a big heavy block, and a city that has red lights everywhere. Plus it's been -30 a good portion of the winter so more idling than usual, and add in a lot more snow than usual.

The full sized mid-size, my 2014 F150 "Fiddy"

with gas pushing $8 a gallon in plenty of places in Canada right now, don't know how many adventures we will be going on with the truck outside of our twice cancelled trip to Newfoundland. I'll be that guy screwing the pooch at 90km/h the whole way at this rate to ideally keep the fuel use below...

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

$6.16 a gallon roughly at the moment. Expected to be $6.80 soon. Glad our trailer is as light and small as it is. I have to go back to regular octane now I can't afford 91 @ over $6.80 a gallon right now and that's with my truck only driving like 6,000-7,000 miles a year average. Our trip to...

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

$690+ a month over 5 years assuming I get $18500 for my current truck. Which is turning 8 years old this June. XLT 2.7 300a with a few options is $52500+ 12% taxes. XLT sport 301a is $57500 plus taxes. House will be paid off in July so do I get a truck now at low interest or do I wait a couple...

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

The body of my truck is the losing battle up here. I'm only at 112,000 KM and have done every bit of maintenance. F150 rusts from the inside out. While standing on a snow pile I got to see my roof and see my 3rd brake light is leaking. So I get to take the cap off, replace that, and I guess...

Why I switched from a Tacoma to an F150

Gas is going up to $1.60+ a liter for regular here (over $6 a gallon for freedom units). Maybe being stock isn't so stupid anymore. I'm torn between no truck payments now, but even 2-3 MPG difference on a new truck... Gas keeps going up might be worth it long term. I wouldn't consider the GM...

The full sized mid-size, my 2014 F150 "Fiddy"

We prefer the surveyor tent and wood stove but the one we have is huge, and heavy. The stove isn't light either. Having to haul it in by sled is a lot of work for two or three nights. I've been looking at smaller tents and lighter stoves, but it's been an expensive year, and I'm not working 6...

    Keep it stock? :(

The full sized mid-size, my 2014 F150 "Fiddy"

We plan to shovel out more off the side of the highway so we can park safely, and snow shoe in with sleds. The downside to that is how long that takes and then building little individual shelters, and relying on body heat when sleeping. Rather looks way more promising. Ideally lows of -15 and...

The full sized mid-size, my 2014 F150 "Fiddy"

Well. Went to scout out the usual winter camp area. Won't be a hot tent and stove this time, can't get the truck off the highway Almost an hour to snow shoe in to the spot we typically set up, snow was knee to thigh deep everywhere. And the crystal/powder type snow that you sink down in because...

The real reason to buy the new Maverick

Outback and larger are not the "smaller and more fuel efficient" models. Especially to spend 40k or more for marginal gains over an aluminum F150.

The real reason to buy the new Maverick

Indeed. I'll be spending time reading up specs of various cross overs but I don't think there is tons out there with a 3000-3500# tow rating that will be under 10l/100 in daily driving. At least not that's under 40k CAD right now. GMC Terrain and equivalent can't tow. Nissan Rogue can't. AFAIK...

How are you guys handling yourselves in strange circumstances off the grid?

I love moose. They are just angry SOBs that hate people and other animals. I'd reckon they are my spirit animal if I was a well muscled large person. Instead I resemble a hoary marmot

The real reason to buy the new Maverick

For towing, a quad on an open deck trailer, plus hunting gear. Possible tent trailer in the future or small enclosed trailer. You probably had a real high tongue weight on the pop up Todd Mine was obscene with that front storage part. Everything ended up there plus we never traveled with full...

The real reason to buy the new Maverick

Are we counting the maverick as mid size? Buddy of mine is changing careers, and with has $1.499 a liter his 2017 SCREW 3.5 FX4 F150 is heavy on gas for all the driving he'll be doing. Kicker is, still needs to be able to tow 3000# on weekends sometimes. Not a lot of decent on fuel vehicles that...
