With my son (now 2), bouncing around in his bucket was basically the only thing he liked for a good period of his life. If you have fire/backroads near your house, you might end up spending a good number of hours exploring them just so the little guy will take a nap. If your kid is like mine...
You're obviously a much better mechanic than me, but I'd just make sure that you do the rebuild with enough time to put a good number of miles on it afterwards. You don't want to find out that something was left loose 2000 miles into your journey as it works free.
But I'm the type that drives a...
It would be harder because you would likely need to book in advance. If you decided to go midday and leave later that day, you'd have to get lucky with availability.
I knew that it didn't tilt, I was just curious that they give up the ability for the cab and box to move independently when the frame twists. I guess they don't worry about it too much as you aren't taking those beasts on anything too rugged. And it sure would make the pass through easier.
Wow, thanks for the pictures!
I'm interested to see that everyone has almost direct mounted the beds over the double cabs with no clearance. That might be my dream set up now that I have a dog and kid, though the smaller trucks always seemed so convenient.
I think this is more info on the...
Are you sure you need it to be 4x4? If you're not doing much real off road until or likely to be doing something like driving on the beach, I would imagine you could get by without it.
That being said, while I don't have experience with either, the Bengal strikes me as the better overland...
That makes sense. I had started my comment before you'd added your last one about the plumbing change. That seems harder to do with an existing build. It just seemed like a lot of work to gain 6 inches of bed width and a different refrigerator orientation. :)
That being said, building stuff is...
Why did you decide to do another build? Your old van looked pretty nice and those aren't really major changes. Are you selling it at a profit or is it just the itch to be working on something?

A second FG in my area. $20,000 rather than $10,000, but looks cleaner.

Just depends on what the definition of "some rust" is...
Oh that's interesting. To people prefer their conversions for existing vans over Quigley or Quadvan versions? I don't have any experience from which to compare.
I'm a couple years out from any potential van build in any case, so I have a bit of time to wait and see how things shake out.
I'm curious about the better aftermarket 4x4 setups that will be available soon for the Transit. Do you know of something in the pipeline or just presuming based on their popularity?
I think people would be worried less if they were getting near 15mpg. A lot of folks seem to get less and that's when people start wondering about gas mileage.
If people want a heavy 4x4 camper and only that, then it makes sense to say "well you can't really worry about gas mileage" but some...
Huh, you're right. And to make it even weirder, it only seems to be recessed about an inch or inch and a half with plenty of space above it.
That's it! I'm not buying this van.
When you see language like:
and:
You know that they're going for a different market than Expedition Portal.
Also, it bothers me that I can't figure out what is "recessed" about the Vitamix...
