I had read that the stock suspension wasn't that great on these for things like washboard and given I'm looking at 100k plus examples, I suspect that a lot will have suspensions that need replacing in any case.
And I'm currently out there in a Transit Connect, but at 60k I've already replaced...
I just moved West (Las Vegas area) and am looking for a family adventure vehicle that handles washboard/rutted BLM roads better than our Transit Connect.
I searched the forum and found a thread from 4 years ago on the GMT900 (10th gen) Suburbans, asking why they weren't used as expedition...
Thanks! I don't think I'd need the lockers often, but it would be nice as I moved to an area with a lot of sand. Right now I do my adventuring in a Transit Connect, so almost anything will be an upgrade in off road ability (and a downgrade in space efficiency). After our last trip, my wife has...
I'll be following this thread with interest. I'm in the market for a vehicle for BLM road exploration and family camping vehicle and the Pathfinder looks like it might fit the bill. Used versions can be had pretty affordably right now compared to some of the usual suspects, it's bigger than the...
I absolutely love this thread. Has it convinced me to buy the Montero of my dreams...no. I don't have your level wrenching skill, sedole, so I'm not sure I should go that route. But I love the trucks and what you've done with this one is fantastic.
If OP likes to buy new, loaded, and doesn't keep his vehicles that long, he should also consider depreciation. The Armada is 20k cheaper than the Land Cruiser now, but I'd in 3 years he wants a different vehicle, I suspect that the gap in value will be larger than that (or at minimum similar)...
I built a two person, folding sleeping platform for my second gen Transit Connect a few years back. It lets you have the middle seats up then fold out to a near full size bed.
Then I had a kid to make three people in the family and the platform got less use as I needed to remove the car seat...
I use the mini-ground hogs for my super lightweight 2 person backpacking tent. I actually just put one into the ground minutes ago in my yard as that tent needed to air out after having been packed too quickly after use.
I'm trying to get away from driving stakes with this new tent. It's a big...
I just purchased a Kodiak Canvas tent and am at the suggestion of this forum am planning on getting some lag bolts to use as stakes to speed set up. What have people found to be a good general purpose length? I see in Burning Man forums that 12 and up are the recommendation, but I'm not sure if...
Intriguing for sure, but a bit rich for my blood at the moment. I'm not sure we're going to stay with a ground tent long term or end up with a trailer/van/rv long-term.
I'm looking to buy a family tent for car camping. I have multiple backpacking tents, but now I have a four year old, so I want a larger space than those tents or our van platform provides. We're moving from the Northeast to Las Vegas, so uses will mostly be in the mountain southwest.
I'm...
Yep. This is one of the cringey-est things I've read on the internet. Which is impressive, as the internet is a cringey place. A dude bragging about loving "driving competitive" in a race with a cargo van, the driver of which was likely either oblivious or wondering why this guy kept wanting to...
I was wandering through an RV dealer lot the other day. I would love something with the layout of the Transit-based Coachman Freelander Micro (built on the Transit Chassis) for a 3 person basecamp style vehicle for skiing and mountain biking (plus to use as an extra guest cottage at our//my...
I wore a pair of linen/cotton pants that I'd cut into shorts for years until they gave up the ghost this summer. I bought the pants at Goodwill with the intent to cut them off. I liked the leg width on pants vs the more voluminous shorts of the time.
I did so the cut edge though so you...
