Welcome-
Great looking 40! I too love the desert sand color...
...but I am also biased towards the smurf blue! :D
Can't wait to see the stock wheelies...:chowtime:
Come on up, we have tons of 40's here in Boulder. Not to mention one of TLCA's premiere clubs :D Rising Sun! Be sure to come over and say hi on our local forum.
I would suggest looking at why you are only getting 10 mpg. You ought to be getting a bit more than that. I can get 15-17mpg with good...
I certainly don't think you are being overly cautious. I like the above mentioned mods, but using the grade 8 bolts you mentioned will go a long way towards preventing disaster as well. For under 10 bucks you could swap everything over to a grade 8 or high shear bolt no problem.
nice looking...
I have no idea where you live but if you are in a marine/boat environment then you might consider getting a few coats for someone to re-gelcoat your nest.
Sweet score, can't wait for a few pics.

After much back and forth, I have decided to go all steel for a few reasons:
The cost difference is acutally a bit more than I first considered.
Weldability, repairability, "mod"ability.
Strength and toughness.
No electrolosis.
Cost :D
I am heading out this week to get the sheets cut and...
Good for you! You are building up one fantastic and capable set up there! I hope to see it in person one day! That is going to look sweet behind your 80 for sure!

I have said this before and I'll say it again... :D
...I wouldn't sand blast it and repaint it, I would touch up the rust with a flap disk, prime it those areas and then scuff the rest of the paint and then repaint it. You have a MIL SPEC finish on that trailer, there is nothing else on the...
This is what I am going to mimic in my homemade trailer. I am going to build a set of these style drawers. One side will pull out to be a kitchen.
These are called Drifta from Australia...
My favorite is the one long enough to get me out! :D
Seriously though I have used some from a farm store for a while and they are really nice for a lot less than the 4x4 shops.
Just another .02
Have any pics of peeling the seats to install the heaters? I would love to see that part. I have considered this for my fj40 when the top is off and it is brisk at night but nice during the day.
Thanks!
this is what i am leaning towards, a friend in my local club own a high tech sheet metal forming business, and I am waiting to hear his response before making a final decision.
Thanks! :thumb:
Howdy folks.
I am at a crossroads...
I am at the point of adding sheet metal to the frame I built up and I am trying to decide between steel and aluminum. Here are my thoughts on each. Care to chime in? I hope so :thumb:
Aluminum:
First, I like the idea of no rust on the aluminum panels, that...
I am going to use a sacrificial strip on the rear of mine and call it good. Then again, i am not trying to drop off of 3' ledges either.
You are on the right track.
